Overview

This Post Doctoral Clinical Teaching Fellow position is based with the palliative care team for 50% of the time and with the Oncology team for the other 50%. It aims to enhance undergraduate teaching for medical students at St George's University, City St George's Medical School. The majority of the post holder's time will be spent on undergraduate teaching activities, with the remaining time available for clinical work or research projects. The post holder will also coordinate teaching across all acute services to ensure students can achieve their learning objectives and will liaise with other Clinical Teaching Fellows through the CTF network.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver undergraduate teaching to medical students on St George's University MBBS programmes, covering end of life care, symptom management, uncertainty, comorbidities, polypharmacy, advance care planning, and communication skills.
• Deliver lectures, patient perspective sessions (with the local hospice), and case based workshops during the eight palliative medicine teaching weeks each year.
• Provide palliative care clinical teaching during ward based placements, integrating holistic principles into students' clinical experience.
• Co ordinate and liaise with similar post holders across the Trust via the CTF network to identify gaps and opportunities in clinical teaching.
• Maintain an educational supervision relationship from the palliative care team.

Qualifications

• MBBS and membership in a relevant specialty.
• Intercalated BSc or equivalent.

Experience

• Completion of Core Training programme.
• Broad medical experience, including experience in a palliative care setting.
• Clinical experience beyond core training, demonstrated research with publications.

Clinical Knowledge

• Basic knowledge of diagnosis and management of common clinical conditions.
• Management of acutely ill patients.
• Specialty based knowledge within palliative care and oncology.

Teaching Skills

• Experience teaching medical students.
• Clinical and organisational teaching experience.
• Delivery of virtual teaching sessions.
• Lecturing and assessment experience.
• Knowledge of problem based learning (PBL) and case based learning (CBL).
• Course development and facilitation.
• Management of virtual teaching environment, including prevention of bullying behaviours.

Salary

£54,499 to £67,325 a year (pro rata per annum).
