Clinical Research Nurse (Part-time)

Building on our track record of delivering pioneering research, we are collaborating with Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Trust, University of Cambridge and the Cancer Research UK (CRUK) Queen Mary University of London Cancer Prevention Trials Unit (CPTU) to deliver a clinical trial into the early detection of oesophageal cancer, the BEST4 Screening Study. The trial is funded by CRUK and the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and aims to determine whether the Capsule Sponge test can be used to enable early diagnosis of oesophageal cancer and reduce cancer-related deaths.
You will be responsible for managing clinics on the BEST4 mobile unit and will be trained to administer the Capsule Sponge test. You will work alongside established clinical teams, researchers, research nurses and administrators to facilitate recruitment, sample collection, data entry and providing clinical support as required. Travel to various sites and clinics in a mobile unit is required.
You will liaise closely with the clinic coordinator regarding appointments and cover on the unit and work with the Clinical Coordinator, Clinical Research Team and Project managers at QMUL, Cambridge and EMS to ensure study objectives are met. You will ensure clinical and regulatory compliance and that each participant journey and experience is maintained to the highest standard.

We seek a motivated, enthusiastic and flexible candidate to join the BEST4 team. This is a clinical patient-facing post requiring a dynamic individual who can work independently and as part of a team. A full programme of induction and ongoing support will be provided to the successful candidate.
Main duties- Managing the clinic on the BEST4 mobile unit
- Promote and nurture a welcoming, professional and pleasant environment for all participants
- Explain study involvement and obtain informed consent, providing and receiving complex information as needed
- Complete the BEST4 participant screening visit as per study protocol
- Confirm participant safety to take part and complete the informed consent prior to the Capsule Sponge test
- Perform the Capsule Sponge test on participants
- Manage their caseload autonomously while working as part of the BEST4 research team
- Perform other clinical skills to care for participants during study visits (e.g., emergency practices)
- Work in accordance with local policy and procedures and take appropriate emergency actions as required (detachment, bleeding, resuscitation or anaphylaxis)
- Keep mandatory training up to date per local policies
- Collaborate with the BEST4 clinical coordinator to address any re-training needs in Capsule Sponge test administration
- Input data into the electronic Case Report Form (eCRF) and related research databases
- Collect, record, verify and enter study data with high accuracy in line with ICH GCP
- Work in accordance with ICH-GCP, National Directives and Research Governance of Cambridge University, the Trusts, CPTU and EMS Healthcare policies
- Identify potential barriers to recruitment and participate in action/plans to address them
- Facilitate effective communication with the study team, BEST4 Research Nurses and study participants; attend and contribute to relevant meetings
- Liaise with study personnel at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Trust, University of Cambridge, CPTU and EMS Healthcare as necessary
- Drive the BEST4 mobile units to different research sites as per the study schedule
- Registered nurse (NMC Registration)
- Continued CPD
- Previous research experience or Upper GI experience
- Significant post-registration clinical experience
- Experience in performing nurse-led clinics
- Good understanding of clinical research
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal/written)
- Ability to work accurately and methodically with attention to detail
- Team player with ability to work independently and on own initiative
- High level of organisational and time management skills
- Excellent IT skills and proficiency in MS Office
- Full, clean UK Driving Licence
- Willing to travel and undertake overnight stays as required
- Motivated and enthusiastic
- Degree in a related subject area
- ICH GCP Training
- Knowledge of research regulations at national level
- Prior experience in cancer research and endoscopy
- Prior experience of working with Capsule Sponge device
