Clinical Development Fellows Various Specialties
An opportunity has arisen within NHS Lanarkshire for Clinical Development Fellows from August 2026.
Working with the Director of Medical Education (DME) for NHS Lanarkshire, the Deputy DMEs (DDMEs) for the Lanarkshire Hospitals, Clinical Directors, Clinical service leads and the Directorate Management team, these posts will give successful applicants the opportunity to experience acute care clinical specialties of professional interest to them before committing to a programme of training through a Core or Specialty application.
Successful applicants will have the opportunity to spend time in one of the following specialties / locations: Emergency Department at University Hospital Hairmyres, Monklands or Wishaw, Acute Medicine in University Hospital Hairmyres, Monklands and Wishaw, General Surgery within University Hospital Hairmyres, Monklands and Wishaw, ENT, University Hospital Monklands, Trauma & Orthopaedics as well as Medicine for Older Adults/Trauma & Orthopaedics based at University Hospital Wishaw, Urology within University Hospital Monklands. Consideration will also be given to any applicants who wish to make rotation posts from the specialties on offer (for example, 2 x 6 month posts). All appointments will be for a period of 12 months.
It is envisaged that the posts will have an 80% Direct Clinical Care and approximately 20% Development split. This generally equates to 1 development day per working week on average across the year (approximately 45 days per year in most cases).
Individuals who have trained out with the UK process will be supported in this role where there will be a robust induction period that will help individuals integrate into the role. Our induction will extend to a two weeks softer landing observation period for successful candidates dependent on your experience. You will initially work 40 hours per week and following your period of support you will be approved to move onto the full rota, which will then incur a full banding supplement.
Accommodation may be available for those who reside out with NHS Lanarkshire area for an initial period of 3 months to allow successful candidates to relocate to the area.
