Job overviewThe Children's Emergency Department at Horton General Hospital currently has a vacancy for a Junior Sister/Charge Nurse. We seek a highly skilled, proactive, and motivated nurse with experience in emergency medicine and a passion for compassionate, high quality care.
Responsibilities- Act as the shift co coordinator on a day to day basis, providing supervision and support to the multi disciplinary team.
- Develop, manage and monitor the performance of a team of nurses, ensuring the highest standards of care and safety are achieved at all times.
- Promote effective communication and teamwork at all levels.
- Demonstrate clinical leadership skills and specialist knowledge.
- Assist the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse with staff management, human resource management, clinical governance, and risk management.
- Contribute toward the strategic and operational development of the department.
- Registered Paediatric Nurse.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development through NMC revalidation.
- Achievement of an approved nursing mentorship qualification.
- Minimum of three years acute care registered nurse experience.
- UK recognised degree in nursing relevant to the post.
- Post graduate qualification related to an area of practice.
- Able to prioritise own workload and that of others.
- Demonstrates ability to maintain and contribute to standards of practice, conduct, and decision making in conjunction with team leaders.
- Acts as a role model and leads by example to reinforce the Trust's values.
- Able to supervise non registered and less experienced staff.
- Capable of escalating concerns appropriately to reduce risk and promote patient safety.
- Experience managing clinical incidents and complaints.
- Experience in relevant specialty and substantive management of a clinical area.
- Articulate knowledge and skills needed for a high standard of care in the area of practice.
- Work under own initiative within role boundaries.
- Demonstrates awareness of importance of teamwork.
- Document observations, results, decisions and actions effectively in patient notes and communicate with the multi disciplinary team.
- Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, carers, and team members.
- Proactively support education of learners and less experienced staff.
- Manage, direct, and evaluate nursing care for a defined caseload.
- Competent to administer intravenous medicines.
- Competent in central venous access management.
- Put patients at the core of care, encouraging support, integrity, respect, and teamwork.
- Show pride in the quality of care and learn from successes and setbacks.
- Deliver high standard care and continuously seek improvement through change and innovation.
- Support colleagues in delivering care aligned with Trust values and behaviours.
- Understand and keep up to date with professional issues related to area of practice.
- Identify learning needs and maintain professional development.
- Lead development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policies, protocols, or guidelines relevant to the area of practice.
- Question and challenge nursing practice constructively to improve standards of patient care.
- Demonstrate previous leadership within practice and the multi disciplinary team.
- Show innovation within sphere of practice.
