Job Description
Band 3 Children's Complex Care Health Care Assistant

We are looking for confident, innovative Health Care Assistants to join our Children's Complex Care team working across Birmingham. The post involves delivering care to children with complex health needs in their own homes and schools, and may require working in hospitals, hospices, or day centres.

Please note: This is a year round 24/7 service.

Main duties of the job

The role involves delivering care to children in a variety of settings, including home and school. The successful candidate will be trained in a variety of clinical skills such as gastrostomy feeding, suction, and oxygen therapy using a competency based framework. Continued support is provided in the role.

Qualifications / training
  • NVQ/RQF Level 3 in a child or young adult related subject or equivalent.
  • Evidence of literacy/numeracy skills (GCSE or equivalent).
  • Willingness to undertake competency based training with annual updates.
Experience
  • Experience of working with children with complex health needs.
  • Willingness to work in health care and education environments with complex care needs children.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision in an MDT once competencies are achieved.
  • Ability to stay calm in stressful situations.
Skills / knowledge
  • Ability to provide nursing care sensitively, taking into account the client's culture, beliefs and wishes.
  • Awareness of health and safety in the workplace.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the needs of a multicultural, socially diverse population.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures for adults and children.
  • Commitment to team working.
  • Awareness of needs of individuals from diverse social and cultural groups.
  • Creative thinking and ability to prioritise in a busy environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
