A leading horticultural grower is looking for a practical, hands on Line Leader / Machine Setter to support the production of young crop plants. This role sits at the centre of a fast moving propagation environment, where precision, care, and technical confidence with machinery are essential.

If you enjoy working with equipment, solving problems on the line, and playing a key role in producing high quality plants, this opportunity offers a rewarding blend of technical challenge and day to day operational responsibility.

The Role

You'll take ownership of a specialist production line used in the preparation and handling of young plants. This includes setting up and adjusting machinery, monitoring throughput, and ensuring the line runs smoothly and safely throughout the day.

Alongside the technical side, you'll be responsible for maintaining quality, supporting basic maintenance, and coordinating with colleagues to keep the wider growing process flowing efficiently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Setting up, operating, and adjusting horticultural production machinery
  • Monitoring line performance to maintain consistent output and plant quality
  • Troubleshooting minor mechanical issues and making on the spot adjustments
  • Keeping the working area clean, organised, and safe
  • Checking quality at key stages to protect plant health and uniformity
  • Recording production data accurately and escalating issues when needed
  • Supporting routine cleaning, calibration, and preventative maintenance
  • Communicating clearly with colleagues to ensure smooth workflow and handovers
  • Following all health, safety, and compliance procedures
What You'll Bring
  • Hands on experience operating or setting up machinery in horticulture, agriculture, or production
  • Practical problem solving skills and confidence working directly with equipment
  • Strong attention to detail, especially around plant quality and consistency
  • Good communication skills and a collaborative approach
  • An understanding of how your line supports the wider growing and propagation process
  • Ability to stay organised and accurate during busy seasonal periods
  • A proactive, safety focused mindset

Mechanical aptitude, experience with automated horticultural equipment, or relevant certificates are beneficial but not essential.

Working Environment
  • Production/growing facility handling young plants
  • Standing for extended periods
  • Some manual handling
