1:1 Teaching Assistant Mentor Ex-Military Outdoors

Looking to transition your military experience into a supportive, active role? Team up with an Instructor to mentor a young person 1:1 in the classroom and outdoors.

Location: Blackpool, Lancashire

Salary: £24,500 - £25,500 FTE (Full Time Equivalent, depending on experience)

Job Type: Full time, Temporary to Permanent

Start Date: September 2026

Responsibilities

• Support a single secondary aged student in a three person team (you, an instructor/teacher, and the student) ensuring engagement, safety, and learning.
• Work alongside the lead instructor to help the student focus, manage tasks, and stay on track with classroom learning.
• Assist with outdoor education sessions, sports, and practical projects, maintaining the student's safety and motivation outside the classroom.
• Use military experience to establish structure, accountability, and life skills for the student.
• Act as a grounding, supportive presence, using a firm but fair approach to de escalate challenging emotions and behaviours.

Qualifications & Requirements

• No prior school experience required - life experience, discipline, and calm demeanour are valued.
• Armed Forces / Services background highly valued for adaptability, punctuality, and teamwork.
• Active mindset and enthusiasm for outdoor, hands on activities.
• Strong communication skills to coordinate effectively with the lead instructor.
• Resilience, calm, level headed attitude, and non personal reaction to challenging behaviour.
