The Birmingham Zoo Zoological Manager, Trails of Africa

The Birmingham Zoo is currently seeking applications for a Zoological Manager in the Trails of Africa Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a high level of animal care to Black Rhinoceros, Reticulated giraffe, Plains Zebra, Eastern Bongo, Ostrich, and Red Flanked Duiker.

This position reports to an Area Curator and oversees a team of assigned keepers. Responsible for the functional supervision, including operational assistance and technical guidance, for a physical area or group of animals and the staff assigned to care for those animals. Zoological Managers participate in the daily husbandry of animals (including diets, training, enrichment, propagation, and health care), exhibit maintenance and upkeep, coordination of veterinary procedures and animal shipments, and record keeping. Guest experience, as well as in educational, media, and conservation programs. The Zoological Manager coordinates guest experience programs as well as participation in educational, media, and conservation initiatives

This position requires working at least 40 hours per week, including weekends, holidays, and late events as needed.
