Responsibilities

As an Electrical & PLC Technical Tutor, you will be responsible for planning, delivering and assessing a range of apprenticeship standards, technical qualifications and commercial training programmes. You will support learners in developing the practical skills, technical knowledge and behaviours required to succeed in engineering and manufacturing.

Working within a workshop environment, you will deliver training in topics such as electrical installation, fault finding, industrial controls, PLC programming and automation systems, ensuring learners achieve their qualifications and maximise their potential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, prepare and deliver high-quality electrical and automation training to apprentices and adult learners.
  • Develop schemes of work, lesson plans, assignments and assessment activities that meet awarding body and customer requirements.
  • Create and maintain learning resources, practical exercises and training materials to support learner achievement.
  • Deliver practical training in electrical engineering, industrial maintenance, PLCs, control systems and automation technologies.
  • Create a positive and motivational learning environment that promotes learner engagement, development and achievement.
  • Assess learner competence using a variety of assessment methods and provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Monitor learner progress, identify learners requiring additional support and implement appropriate intervention strategies.
  • Produce learner progress reports and maintain accurate learner records in accordance with centre procedures.
  • Ensure teaching, learning and assessment activities comply with Ofsted, awarding body and apprenticeship standard requirements.
  • Promote and maintain high standards of learner behaviour, professionalism and attendance.
  • Ensure health and safety is embedded in all activities.
Requirements
  • Time-served apprenticeship in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Maintenance, Automation or a related discipline.
  • City & Guilds Part 3, Technical Certificate, National Certificate, HNC or equivalent engineering qualification.
  • NVQ Level 3 or above in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Level 3 teaching qualification or willingness to work towards one.
  • Recent industrial experience within manufacturing, maintenance, automation or engineering environments.
  • Practical experience with electrical systems, fault diagnosis, industrial controls and automation equipment.
  • Knowledge and experience of PLC programming and fault finding.
  • Understanding of electrical regulations, engineering standards and safe systems of work.
  • Strong communication, presentation and organisational skills.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire apprentices and adult learners.
