Job Description
Overview

WELLSITE GEOLOGIST is required by our client, an oil and gas operator, to be assigned on a contract basis, located in Congo.

DURATION 6-months (ongoing)

Principal Responsibilities
  • Identify formations and rock types encountered during drilling (especially formation tops and potential reservoir zones).
  • Analyse rock cuttings and gas data.
  • Advise on casing points, coring points, and potential hazards.
  • Monitor downhole mud losses and drilling parameters.
  • Interpret wireline logs and other data acquired during drilling.
  • Supervise and quality control specialist geological wireline and LWD services.
  • Ensure proper communication between mud logging personnel and drilling crews.
  • Communicate findings to drilling personnel, the operations geologist and key stakeholders
  • Advise on drilling hazards, optimisation, and where to continue or suspend drilling based on geological findings.
  • Prepare daily geological reports and maintain an updated composite master log integrating all geological, geophysical and drilling data.
  • Participate in the preparation of end-of-well reports.
  • Supervise the collection, conditioning, labelling and transportation of core and cutting samples.
  • Ensure adherence to safety procedures, quality control of equipment and services and proper documentation.
  • Contribute to the development of safety culture and procedures.
  • Other duties as required.
Experience / Qualifications
  • Graduate in a relevant technical discipline, ideally with an MSC (or equivalent) in Geology, Geosciences or a related discipline.
  • Experience as a mud logger or logging Geologist.
  • Strong background as a Wellsite Geologist.
  • Previous exposure to Africa (and Republic of Congo specifically) preferred.
  • Proven experience in describing cores and cuttings as well as interpreting LWD/MWD and wire logs.
  • Able to work quickly and effectively without supervision, and as well working within a team of multidisciplinary professionals.
  • Hold up-to-date certificates in Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET), Minimum Industry Safety Training (MIST), and an Offshore Medical Certificate
  • Good team worker and excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Skilled at determining priorities, working under pressure to deliver quality work within agreed time frames.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to evaluate complex information and make decision at any hour, day or night
  • Strong mathematical and scientific analytical skills.
  • High competence in IT, with the ability to use standard office programmes and specialised software.
  • Fluent in technical French and English.
