Bromley Y seeks highly motivated andenthusiastic mental health practitioners to work and train within our service. Thisis an exciting opportunity for aTrainee (CBT) to join our team as part of the NHS England (NHSE) fundedChildren and Young People (CYP) Psychological Training Programmes.
We arelooking for applicants who are knowledgeable and passionate about Bromley. The training post will equip the post-holder to provide evidencedbased interventions for children, young people or families (parents/carers)using CBT. The post holder will workwith people from various cultural backgrounds, ages and ability, usinginterpreters when necessary and should be committed to equity, diversity andinclusion.
Main duties of the jobThe CYPPsychological Therapies training programme is a government-funded initiativeaiming to grow the child mental health workforce to meet much needed demand. Tohelp reach this goal, NHSE covers salary and training costs for a 1-year post,allowing services to employ trainees to help implement new & expandexisting specialist pathways to bridge the gaps in CYP mental health support. This is a unique opportunity to apply yourlearning from weekly teaching into practical clinical interventions, workingwith clients in the service making a direct impact in the lives of children,young people and their families (parents/carers). You will need to balance ademanding course with self-study and clinical work.
This full-time training willbegin in January 2026 with around 2.5 days a week for academic work (teaching andpersonal study) and 2.5 days based at the service seeing clients related totraining assignments. Trainees will be both an employee of the service and anenrolled student with Kings College London. Upon completion qualified traineeswill receive a KCL Postgraduate Diploma in Children & Young Peoples MentalHealth Therapies: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.Please ensure you read the full advert, job description, KCL Programme Brochure, and Application Guidance carefully.

Job responsibilities- With the assistance of their clinicalsupervisor accept appropriate referrals
- Assess clients for suitability for thetreatment for which modality specific training is provided
- Make decisions on suitability of newreferrals, adhering to the departments referral protocols, and referunsuitable clients on to the relevant service or back to the referral agent asnecessary
- Formulate, implement and evaluate therapeuticintervention for clients in line with their training modality and experience
- Involve the system around the child intreatment as appropriate, e.g. parent/carer, school, conveying therapyformulations with sensitivity in easily understood language
- Attend multi-disciplinary meetingsrelating to referrals or clients in treatment, where appropriate
- Complete all requirements relating to datacollection within the service
- Keep coherent records of all clinicalactivity in line with service protocols
- Work closely with other members of the teamensuring appropriate step-up and step-down arrangements are in place tomaintain a stepped care approach
- Fulfilling the requirements of and completing a PG diploma atKings College London including practical, academic, and practice-basedassessments, alongside private study
- Apply learning from the training programme in practice
- Prepare and present clinical information for all patients ontheir caseload to clinical and case management supervisors within the serviceon an agreed and scheduled basis, in order to ensure safe practice and theclinical governance obligations of the worker, supervisor and service aredelivered
- Ensure the maintenance of standards of practice according tothe employer and any regulating, professional and accrediting bodies (egBPS, UKCP, BABCP), and keep up to dateon new recommendations/guidelines set by the department of health (e.g Futurein Mind)
- Experience, knowledge and understanding of Bromley, its children, young people and families (parents/carers)
- At least two years experience working therapeutically with children/young people in a mental health setting
- Knowledge and understanding of issues relating to safeguarding children and young people
- Experience of multi-agency working and liaising across internal & external agencies
- Experience of working with safeguarding issues
- Experience of working with, and addressing issues of, diversity
- Ability to balance academic course requirements, self- study and a clinical case load
- Qualifications that demonstrate a capacity to complete academic work at postgraduate diploma level.
- Minimum second-class Bachelors Degree from a UK University or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard in a relevant subject (e.g. psychology, social work etc). OR Applicants who do not fulfil the academic criteria but with relevant professional experience are encouraged to apply and will be considered on a case-by-case basis
- A core profession as recognised by BABCP (for example, mental health nursing, social work) or a level 6 qualification (typically this would be an undergraduate degree) and meet the eligibility criteria for the BABCP Knowledge Skills and Attitudes (KSA) route. To be eligible for the KSA route you would need to have a minimum of 2 years relevant full-time equivalent therapeutic experience in a mental health setting.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
