Overview

Job Title: Web Content Editor Ref: K&C Pay rate: £17.73 per hour PAYE Role length: Anticipated 3 months Working arrangements: Hybrid - 3 days in the office, 2 days working from home

The role

We are looking for a Web Content Editor, who can ideally start as soon as possible, to oversee the day-to-day management and continuous improvement of the corporate website and microsites, including site structure, navigation, and content strategy. This is a temporary service facing role with the opportunity to work with a variety of services across the organisation. Previous local government or similar organisation experience would be beneficial.

Key responsibilities
  • Ensure all web content aligns with best practices in usability, accessibility (WCAG), and web writing standards
  • Manage technical configurations and CMS platforms to meet agreed service requirements and technical specifications
  • Submit and manage support tickets related to website bugs and technical issues
  • Promote and embed a user-centred approach to digital content and service delivery across the organisation
  • Ensure websites and digital services comply with accessibility standards and Government Digital Service (GDS) guidelines
  • Use analytics and user feedback to inform content decisions and site improvements
  • Plan, prioritise, and manage digital projects, balancing multiple competing demands and meeting deadlines
  • Build and sustain effective relationships with internal teams, stakeholders, and external partners
  • Communicate technical and non-technical information effectively to diverse audiences
  • Identify and engage key stakeholders, manage expectations, and drive consensus
  • Contribute to defining and evaluating digital strategies and policies to ensure alignment with business objectives
  • Provide guidance and support to colleagues on digital best practices, technologies, and service standards
  • Assess and manage risks associated with digital projects and website operations
  • Oversee quality assurance processes to maintain high standards in digital service delivery
What the client is looking for
  • GCSEs or equivalent in English and Mathematics at grades 5-9
  • Previous local government or similar organisation experience would be beneficial
  • Extensive experience in website management, including site architecture, content structuring, and CMS platforms
  • Proficiency in web technologies such as HTML, CSS, XML, and web development tools
  • Strong knowledge of web writing best practices and accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG 2.2 AA and the GDS Service Manual)
  • Experience with web analytics tools and the ability to interpret data to inform decisions
  • Skilled in managing website technical issues, including submitting and tracking support tickets
  • Deep understanding of user-centred design principles and best practices in online communications
  • Experience promoting accessibility and compliance with Government Digital Service (GDS) standards
  • Ability to develop creative, clear, and engaging online content aligned with organisational objectives
  • Proven ability to plan, prioritise, and manage multiple projects with competing deadlines
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience building and maintaining positive working relationships across complex organisations and with external partners
  • Ability to define, evaluate, and guide digital strategies and policies
  • Strong analytical skills, including risk assessment and operational impact
