The RoleThe Environmental Regulation function is responsible for the day to day management of environmental regulation and compliance. The function monitors the compliance of the water and wastewater network and treatment works, influences external environmental policy and manages environmental stakeholder relationships. Environmental Regulation provides expertise to the Uisce Éireann business on influencing environmental policy and managing stakeholders around environmental regulation affecting Uisce Éireann's practices. The function provides regulatory expertise to the business, including the Senior Leadership Team, in all aspects of environmental regulation. The team provides support on legislative and regulatory changes that will affect Uisce Éireann policies in the future.
The Scientific and Technical Services functional area is responsible for the national provision of operational support services to include sampling and laboratory analytics, ensuring that activities are performed in accordance with regulatory obligations to protect public health and the environment. The Sampling sub area is responsible for regulatory and operational sampling and facilitating the transportation of these samples to the laboratory for analysis. This is a centrally managed service which is certified and audited to an accredited standard.
Reporting to the Sampling Regional Lead, the Water Sampling Supervisor will be responsible for supporting the delivery of high quality accredited sampling across assigned regions at a low cost to Uisce Éireann. The role holder works to maintain the integrity of environmental data, ensuring compliance with regulations and contributing to the overall success of the scientific and technical services sampling teams.
Main Duties and Responsibilities- Supervise the collection of water and wastewater samples by their team of water sampling officers, ensuring accurate and consistent recording of sample data.
- Compliance and promotion of safety protocols during all sampling activities.
- Ensure proper documentation and transfer of samples for analysis.
- Maintain quality assurance protocols for water sampling.
- Provide guidance, training and support to the team of water sampling officers, ensuring high quality sampling procedures are followed.
- Identify and analyse potential performance issues and recommend improvement opportunities.
- Ensure the maintenance and calibration of sampling equipment.
- Collaborate with data analysts to provide context and insights into water sampling data.
- Manage deviations to the sampling plan within area of responsibility.
- Monitor and report KPIs for processes over which they have ownership.
- Maintain focus on sample delivery times and ensure these are meeting the set KPIs.
- Assist to improve reaction times to incidents and events identified by the wider business.
- Design Sampling Schedules and strategies for own area of responsibility.
- Maintain good working relationships with key stakeholders and provide high levels of customer service.
- Other duties as required.
- Collaboration with key internal stakeholders across the UÉ business.
- Responsible for promoting and delivering health and safety commitments across UÉ and its supply chain, reinforcing positive behaviours and delivering health and safety objectives and requirements to the highest industry standards.
- Support the delivery of the Uisce Éireann Transformation Programme, driving results required within the Directorate and supporting organisation wide objectives.
- Conduct duties and responsibilities in accordance with Uisce Éireann's Information Security policies, standards, processes and controls to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of UÉ business information and delivery of critical services, in accordance with the NIS Directive and any other relevant cybersecurity regulation.
- Other duties as required.
- Relevant third level qualification and/or accreditation is desirable and/or relevant experience.
- A minimum of 3 years' experience in the water, utilities or similar industries is desirable.
- Full clean driving licence.
- Experience in water or wastewater sampling an advantage.
- Demonstrated people management experience, including performance management, change management and conflict resolution skills.
- Strong background in upholding organisational values through decision making, knowledge sharing and constructive actions.
- Experience in independently resolving customer challenges while maintaining high service standards.
- Experience providing coaching in the development of the technical skills and abilities in others.
- Highly motivated individual, working to the highest professional standards and with proven ability to deliver results and motivating a team to achieve high standards.
- Strong analytical skills, proactively identifying problems, proposing and implementing solutions.
- Experience in taking ownership of safety responsibilities and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
