Responsibilities

This is an exciting volunteer role where you can make a real difference. The Harm Reduction Volunteer plays an important role in helping to reduce drug-related deaths. A key part of the role is engaging with service users, family members, carers, and visitors to increase awareness of overdose prevention, provide naloxone training, support stock management, and contribute to blood-borne virus (BBV) testing initiatives.

Naloxone Promotion and Training
  • Actively promote naloxone to service users, family members, carers, and other relevant individuals.
  • Provide information on opioid overdose risks and prevention.
  • Deliver naloxone awareness and administration training in line with service procedures.
  • Encourage individuals at risk of witnessing or experiencing an opioid overdose to carry naloxone.
  • Support the distribution and replacement of naloxone kits.
  • Accurately record naloxone interventions, training sessions, and distributions on CRiiS.
  • Monitor naloxone stock levels and report shortages to the relevant team members.
Blood-Borne Virus (BBV) Testing
  • Promote BBV testing to service users.
  • Offer and complete BBV testing in accordance with training, competency requirements, and service procedures.
  • Provide information on BBVs, harm reduction, and appropriate referral pathways.
  • Accurately record BBV testing activity on CRiiS.
