Urban Drainage Lead Water & Utilities Role Overview: We are seeking an experienced and visionary Urban Drainage Lead to guide our team in developing and delivering innovative solutions for wastewater networks, integrated urban drainage plans, sustainable urban drainage systems (SuDS), and blue-green infrastructure. This role is central to shaping resilient, sustainable cities that balance engineering excellence with environmental stewardship. Duties & Responsibilities:- Leadership & Strategy
- Lead and grow multidisciplinary team of engineers, planners, and specialists working on urban drainage and water infrastructure projects.
- Develop and implement integrated urban drainage strategies that align with climate resilience and sustainability goals.
- Champion innovation in blue-green infrastructure and sustainable drainage practices.
- Technical Delivery
- Oversee design, modelling, and delivery of wastewater network improvements and SuDS projects.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, environmental policies, and best practice guidelines.
- Integrate nature-based solutions into urban drainage planning to enhance biodiversity and community wellbeing.
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate with local authorities, utilities, developers, and community groups to deliver holistic drainage solutions.
- Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
- Represent the organisation at industry forums, conferences, and stakeholder meetings.
- Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Drive research and adoption of emerging technologies in urban water management.
- Monitor performance of implemented systems and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Contribute to thought leadership in sustainable urban infrastructure.
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources, or related discipline.
- Member of CIWEM, Chartered Engineer status (or working towards it) preferred.
- Proven experience in wastewater networks, urban drainage, and SuDS design/delivery.
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing teams and projects.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
