Underwriter - Charterers Liability

About the Role

As an Underwriter, you will be at the heart of our operations, assessing and managing risks associated with ship charterers. You will structure tailored insurance solutions, work with international brokers and clients, and contribute to the continued success of our underwriting portfolio.

This position offers a unique opportunity to work in a niche but globally relevant segment of marine insurance, combining technical expertise with relationship building and commercial insight.

You will report directly to the Head of Underwriting.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess and analyse risks linked to ship charterers, including reviewing charter party contracts and liabilities such as hull damage, cargo liability, and third-party exposures.
• Define coverage terms, calculate premiums, and develop customized insurance solutions aligned with market conditions.
• Negotiate policy terms and provide technical guidance to brokers and clients across international markets.
• Advise clients on risk mitigation strategies and contribute to long-term loss prevention.
• Manage a portfolio of accounts, track performance metrics, and contribute to reporting on underwriting outcomes and market trends.

About You

• At least 5 years of relevant experience in Charterers Liability, P&I Insurance, or ship chartering.
• BSc. or MSc. in maritime law, shipping, logistics, or a related field.
• Fluent in English; knowledge of Dutch, French, or Spanish is a strong advantage.
• Wft Schade Zakelijk certification is a plus.
• Commercial mindset with strong analytical, interpersonal, and solution-driven skills.
