This is an exciting opportunity for a trust doctor to join paediatric medical team at trust registrar level.
This post is a 12 months fixed term post. In addition to middle grade general paediatrics, there are opportunities to learn skills and expertise in specialist paediatrics like Diabetes, Epilepsy, ambulatory/HDU, paediatric ED, gastroenterology, respiratory and others, leading to a career as a specialist paediatrician staff grade/associate specialist.
The department has a track record of supporting locally employed doctors to secure training posts or to follow the CESR pathway. The post will predominantly be based at the James Cook University Hospital, but there may be opportunities to work across other sites within the University Hospital Tees group.
Main duties of the jobClinical responsibilities:
Providing general paediatric cover across the CYP service - CYPED, PICU, PAU and the ward
Full shifts attracting on call supplement as per work schedule
Knowledge of and training in child protection
Knowledge of legislation relating to child health
Evidence of clinical audit
Good leadership skills
Good clinical skills
Good organisational and management skills
About usWe are a large secondary care centre in Tees Valley area providing acute, Community and specialist as well as planned services for children in Middlesbrough, Redcar and Northallerton. We provide a broad range of specialist treatments including diabetes, epilepsy, cystic fibrosis, asthma, paediatric endocrine, allergies, gastroenterology and the full range of Community Paediatric Services. We have 6 commissioned level 2 HDU beds and we are part of North East Paediatric Critical Care Network.

Person Specification QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING- Full GMC registration by job start date
- Medical degree (MBBS) or equivalent.
- MRCPCH Part I and Part II or equivalent
- APLS or equivalent
- Successful completion of Level 2 Safeguarding Children: Recognition and Response in Child Protection (or equivalent)
- Experience of working as Middle grade in paediatrics in UK NHS for at least 6 months or 18 months as SHO
- Broad experience in general paediatrics and a range of paediatric subspecialties both inpatient and outpatient
- To have completed at least four years of full-time post graduate training (or part time equivalent) including at least two years in Paediatrics
- Experience in an area of special interest
- Evidence of experience in teaching and education
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
