Trucking Shunter / Driver - Dublin Airport
Posted 10 hours 7 minutes ago by Swissport-8ea42602
Swissport is seeking a Trucking Foreman to join our Irish Trucking Operation at Dublin Airport.
This critical role acts as the physical link between our warehouse operations and our logistics network. Working back-to-back with our current foreman on a 4 on, 4 off shift pattern consisting of 12-hour shifts, you will be responsible for the fluid movement of trailers and freight within the hub, as well as coordinating vital cross-border links.
You will work directly alongside our Trucking Co Ordinators and warehouse teams to ensure that the planning executed in the office is reflected accurately on the ground. This role requires a proactive individual who understands that precision in the yard leads to efficiency on the road, and who can seamlessly coordinate with our broader UK and Ireland network.
Responsibilities- Yard Management: Safely and efficiently oversee and execute the movement of trailers between loading bays and designated parking areas to facilitate a continuous workflow.
- Network Coordination: Maintain regular, clear phone communication with our sister depots in London Heathrow (LHR) and Manchester (MAN) to align schedule updates, troubleshoot delays, and ensure network wide operations run smoothly.
- Loading & Offloading: Assist in and oversee the loading and unloading of trailers, ensuring all freight is handled securely and according to safety protocols.
- Freight Location: Identify and locate specific freight within the warehouse to ensure "just in time" loading for scheduled departures.
- Local Operations: Conduct local collections and deliveries within the Dublin area as required by the Trucking Co Ordinator.
- Operational Synergy: Work in constant communication with the Trucking Office staff to provide real time updates on trailer status and bay availability.
- Safety & Compliance: Conduct daily vehicle checks and maintain a clean, organized yard environment, adhering to all aviation security and health and safety standards.
- Licensing: Full, valid HGV license (C+E) with an up to date CPC card is essential.
- Experience: Proven experience in yard foreman duties, shunting, or heavy goods driving, preferably within a fast paced cargo or logistics environment.
- Excellent Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal communication is mandatory. You must be confident and professional when dealing over the phone with external teams at our LHR and MAN hubs, as well as coordinating via radio or in person with local Dublin staff.
- Shift Flexibility: This role operates on a 4 on, 4 off rotation of 12 hour shifts. You must be comfortable with this pattern and have a flexible approach to covering holidays or sickness within the foreman team.
- Physical Fitness: The ability to handle freight and navigate a busy warehouse/yard environment throughout a 12 hour shift.
- Reliability: As a back to back role, punctuality and a strong work ethic are vital to ensure the smooth handover of operations.
Why Swissport?
You will be part of a small, dedicated team that keeps Ireland's logistics moving. While the office plans the route, you are the leader on the ground who makes it happen. We offer a stable environment with a predictable shift pattern and the opportunity to play a pivotal role at the heart of Dublin's cargo operations.
