Overview

Location: London, Birmingham, or Manchester

We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Transport Planner/Modeller to support the delivery of transport planning and modelling projects across a range of sectors. This role offers an excellent opportunity to build technical expertise in transport assessments and modelling, while contributing to the design of sustainable transport solutions for our clients.

Responsibilities
  • Project Delivery:
    • Support the preparation of Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, Travel Plans, and Access Feasibility Studies for development proposals.
    • Undertake and document junction capacity assessments using tools such as Junctions 10, LinSig, and VISSIM/ VisWalk.
    • Assist in developing and running microsimulation and pedestrian modelling to assess access, circulation, and public realm performance.
    • Contribute to trip generation and distribution analyses using TRICS and other industry-standard datasets.
    • Prepare figures, drawings, and supporting materials using AutoCAD and GIS.
    • Support senior colleagues in preparing transport evidence for planning submissions and stakeholder consultations.
  • Client and Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Assist with engagement with local authorities and stakeholders during pre-application discussions and technical reviews.
    • Support the preparation of clear, well-structured reports and presentations for clients and project teams.
  • Team and Technical Development:
    • Collaborate closely with senior team members, learning from experienced professionals in transport planning, development planning, and modelling.
    • Contribute to maintaining high technical standards and quality assurance in project delivery.
    • Stay informed about new tools, modelling techniques, and emerging best practices in sustainable transport planning.
  • Business Support:
    • Contribute to project bids and proposals by preparing supporting technical content and data analyses.
    • Help maintain and develop internal modelling resources and data libraries.
Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
  • 2-3 years of professional experience in transport planning and/or modelling, ideally with exposure to development planning projects.
  • Working knowledge of transport assessment processes and UK planning system.
  • Experience using relevant software such as TRICS, Junctions 10, LinSig, VISSIM/ VisWalk, AutoCAD, or GIS.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage workload effectively and contribute to multiple concurrent projects.
  • Experience with microsimulation (VISSIM, Aimsun) or pedestrian modelling (Legion, MassMotion).
  • Knowledge of active travel, public transport planning, and sustainable mobility principles.
  • Working toward or interested in professional accreditation (e.g. CIHT, TPP, RTPI, ICE).
  • Experience working with developers, local authorities, or multidisciplinary design teams.
