Job Description

Job Title: Traffic Dispatcher (Fixed-Term - Maternity Cover)

Hours: Monday to Friday, 07:00 - 17:00 (40 hours per week)

A quick look at the role

You'll be at the heart of our transport operation, coordinating vehicles, supporting drivers, and keeping everything running efficiently behind the scenes. As well as day to day dispatch responsibilities, you'll help with compliance, cost control, and employee engagement across the depot.

Your core responsibilities
  • Coordinate vehicle routing and disposal outlet use to maximise efficiency and service quality.
  • Manage driver coverage and availability in line with legal and company requirements.
  • Handle transport administration, including pay, bonus, disposal input, and tachograph records.
  • Monitor and ensure safe, compliant vehicle operations in partnership with our fleet team.
  • Support cost control and productivity through regular reporting and process analysis.
  • Maintain all dispatch office admin including timesheets, payroll records, and holiday rotas.
Essential requirements
  • Strong knowledge of the local area.
  • Exceptional communication skill with the ability to communicate in writing, on a one to one basis and via the phone with all levels including management, team members and internal/external customers.
  • Ability to plan, organise and prioritise effectively.
  • Experience of working to strict deadlines in a time critical environment.
  • A willingness to adapt and develop skill sets and knowledge which is determined by the role/business.
  • Computer literate - comfortable using business software and Microsoft Office Suite (specifically strong knowledge of Excel).
