Transit officers play a vital role in ensuring the safety and security of our passenegers. They do not simply check tickets and issue fines - it is so much more. Transit officers are carers of the elderly and those in need, peacekeepers, negotiators, crowd controllers, listeners, mentors and while on PTA property, they have the powers similar to that of WA Police.
Our transit officers are known for their excellent problem-solving and listening skills, and their ability to remain calm in challenging situations.This is a challenging and often demanding role, but the rewards are great . A transit officer is an operational rolewith shift work as follows - 8 x 10-hour shifts per fortnight, with longer shifts on Friday and Saturday due to later train running. Shift extensions to accomodate later trains are paid at overtime rates.
Afternoon shifts are generally 3pm - 1am: day shifts are 5am-3pm; and twonight shifts run from 7.30pm - 5.30am. You get sixdays off a fortnight and can do unlimited mutually agreed shift swaps, as well as the opportunity to do overtime.
How long isthe training?Training is a comprehensive 15-week program that provides you with a Cert III in Security Operations, plus all the tools and guidance to be a transit officer. Most of the training is conducted at Guildford Training Facility, located next to Guildford Train Station.
What is the salary?The salary range is $1,254.30 - $1,619.90 per week, plus shift penalties and 12% superannuation per annum.
What is the leave entitlement?Transit officers are entitled to five weeks annual leave, as well as 13 weeks long service leave after 10 years, then subsequently after every 7 years.
What are the career progression opportunities?For transit officers the opportunities for career progression include senior transit officers, transit (line) supervisors and many other roles across the PTA, not just within the Security Services branch.
What location will I be working from?Following your graduation from the training,you will be initially based at Perth Station. During training you can nominate your preferred line/depot and will be placed on a list to transfer to that location, should there be no current vacancies available at your preferred location.
