Job Description

Outstanding individuals are sought to fulfill the roles of Training Programme Director for Dental Core and Dental Specialty for the London programme.

The role of Training Programme Director is to work with and support the Associate Dean in leading the delivery of a wide range of functions, aligned to the NHS England (NHS E) mandate.

The Training Programme Director is professionally and managerially accountable to the Associate Dean. The role focuses on improving learner supervision, assessment, and experience, engaging faculty, and ensuring effective educational outcomes both now and in the future. The role is evolving to also focus on workforce transformation and developing multi-professional links.

Training Programme Directors will work across health and social care sectors within a team to ensure education reflects changing service models, delivering an integrated workforce from diverse professional backgrounds.

Training Programme Director posts are being advertised in all Dental Specialties.

Main duties of the job

The Programme Director will ensure compliance with national standards set by the Royal College and within Dental Core and Specialty training. Responsibilities include:

  • Providing clinical leadership and contributing to NHS England's strategic development.
  • Addressing specialty-specific matters and trainee/trainer concerns.
  • Recruiting for training posts and programs.
  • Managing postgraduate programs, including assessments, progression, rotations, support, remediation, OOP management, career support, part-time training, inter-deanery transfer, academic training, and related activities.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced NHS Consultant with comprehensive knowledge of Dental Specialty training in the region, possessing strong leadership and communication skills, and able to work effectively within a multi-professional team.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend at least 40% of their time working in person.

Person Specification Qualifications and Training
  • Registered with the General Dental Council with specialty registration.
  • Membership/Fellowship of a recognized College, Faculty, or professional body.
  • Participation in educational development courses (e.g., educator courses, Train the Trainer).
Experience and Knowledge
  • Extensive experience working with learners or trainees in an educational context.
  • Leadership experience in clinical and educational settings, including managing multi-professional teams.
  • Knowledge of relevant specialty curricula.
  • Proven track record of delivering service and educational outcomes.
Skills and Abilities
  • Leadership skills with the ability to influence and motivate.
  • Ability to establish credibility with colleagues and stakeholders quickly.
  • Knowledge of the latest Dental Gold Guide.
  • Commitment to personal development and supporting others' growth.

Salary will depend on experience, in line with TPD sessional payments.
