Job Description

Join us, be part of more. We're so much more than an energy company. We're a family of brands revolutionising how we power the planet. We're energisers. One team of 21,000 colleagues that's energising a greener, fairer future by creating an energy system that doesn't rely on fossil fuels whilst living our powerful commitment to igniting positive change in our communities. Here, you can find more purpose, more passion, and more potential. That's why working here is .

We do energy differently - we do it all. We make it, store it, move it, sell it, and mend it.

About your team

At British Gas, our mission is to sell it and mend it. We've been powering the UK's homes and businesses for over 200 years - but supplying energy is just part of what we do. We're making the UK greener and more energy efficient, getting closer to Net Zero. By using clever tech like thermostats, heat pumps, solar panels and EV chargers, we're making it cheaper and easier for our customers to reduce their carbon footprint.

About your role

Step into a career where your curiosity, determination and appetite for hands on learning really count. As a Trainee Kitchen Appliance Engineer, you'll play a vital role in keeping homes running smoothly by bringing essential appliances back to life, while building a future ready skillset you can be genuinely proud of. Whether you're changing direction, starting fresh, or looking for a role with real purpose, this is your chance to grow. What matters most is your drive to learn, your problem solving spark, and your commitment to doing great work with care and confidence.

At a state of the art training centre, you won't just learn the basics - you'll develop the skills, qualifications, and practical experience to thrive. You'll learn how to diagnose, service and repair a wide range of kitchen appliances, from electric ovens and hobs to washing machines, dishwashers, and refrigeration. With support from experienced engineers, you'll develop the technical expertise, confidence, and know how to solve problems and make a real difference from day one.

This is a role where you'll make a real impact. You'll be out in the community, meeting customers, solving problems, and keeping appliance powered up and safe. No two days are the same - from restoring a broken oven before a family meal to getting a washing machine back up and running, every day brings new challenges and opportunities to help customers. You'll diagnose faults, repair essential household appliances, and help customers get the best performance from their products, ensuring their homes continue to run smoothly.

Every job is a chance to make a real difference. We're proud that our commitment to inclusion and developing future talent has been recognised through awards including EDI Initiative of the Year at the 2026 Women in Utilities Awards, being named a Times Top 50 Employer for Gender Equality for the fifth consecutive year.

If you're looking for a career with purpose, progression, and hands on learning - and you want to feel supported as you grow - this could be your next step. Bring your ambition. Bring your curiosity. We'll help you turn it into a career that makes a difference.

Here's what we're looking for:
  • Shows strong technical aptitude, whether developed through study, practical experience, or a passion for tinkering, fixing and understanding how things work.
  • Are passionate about delivering brilliant customer service and creating positive experiences for customers.
  • Have a full UK driving licence with no more than 6 points.
  • Are able to commit to a 7 week training programme, primarily based in Wakefield, taking place within your first four months. Any required travel and accommodation will be fully covered.
Here's what's in it for you:
  • A starting salary of £28,090 which will continue to rise as you hit specific milestones during your traineeship. Once you have completed the full programme and aftercare support your salary will increase to £40,133 with bonus and add ons on top.
  • We also offer London Weighting Allowance ranging from £4,160 to £6,240 (dependant on location) for living or starting your day within London.
  • An expensed van for you to use for work, including an EV charge point where applicable & charge card.

Between now and Spring 2027, we are building future talent across the following locations. Some areas will be reviewed later in the year, so thank you for your patience.

We really do value your application. If our recruitment requirements change sooner than expected and we can no longer consider your application, we will let you know.

London: Chiswick & City, Camden & Kingsbury, Dulwich & Greenwich, Loughton & Newham, Barking & Grays, Ealing & Watford, Cobham & Heathrow, Wimbledon & Wandsworth, Epsom & Croydon, Bromley & Dartford South East: Essex North & Suffolk, Maidenhead & Windsor, Amersham & Aylesbury, Farnham & Guildford, Brighton & Burgess Hill, Eastbourne & Hastings.

Why should you apply?

We're not a perfect place - but we're a people place. Our priority is supporting all of the different realities our people face. Life is about so much more than work. We get it. That's why we've designed our total rewards to give you the flexibility to choose what you need, when you need it, making sure that you and your family are supported not only financially, but physically and emotionally too.

If you're full of energy, fired up about sustainability, and ready to craft not only a better tomorrow, but a better you, then come and find your purpose in a team where your voice matters, your growth is non negotiable, and your ambitions are our priority.

We're a family of brands revolutionising how we power the planet. When it comes to energy, no one does it like us. We make it, store it, move it and mend it. We're made up of 12 different businesses, but united by our purpose as Centrica. We're energisers.

Our journey to a greener, fairer future is powered by individuals like you. Through innovative green products, intelligent energy solutions and developing smarter ways to use and save energy, we're not just part of the energy transition, we're leading it.

Our commitment goes beyond sustainability. Together we're bringing our collective energies to create positive change in our local communities.

If you immerse yourself in our fight to change tomorrow, you might just find your why.

We're looking for people to add to our culture - not fit in with it. We're building a community where you can be unapologetically you, where differences are celebrated, and where everyone can belong.

Real inclusivity also means supporting the different realities our people face. That's why we have the UK's best Carers Policy and are continually building our approach to flexibility and wellbeing.

Of course, we love having fun too. We're a people place after all.
