Trainee CAD Engineer

Simple Recruitment are looking for a Trainee CAD Engineer for a permanent opportunity with our client in Radstock.

The Job:

The Trainee CAD Engineer will support the Manufacturing Design team in delivering Fire Product projects from concept through to production. Working under the guidance of experienced engineers, the trainee will develop the skills required to create accurate 3D models, 2D technical drawings, and manufacturing documentation. The role will contribute to maintaining high design quality and meeting project delivery targets, while providing the opportunity to build strong technical knowledge and practical engineering experience within a manufacturing environment.

Key responsibilities:

• Support the production and maintenance of 2D CAD details, general arrangements, and manufacturing drawings
• Assist in creating 3D models of new and existing products using Autodesk Inventor or similar CAD software
• Help review, revise and reissue drawings following internal or customer feedback
• Contribute to generating Bills of Materials and production routes within the company ERP system
• Learn to manage engineering change requests and support drawing control updates
• Assist in preparing RFIs and query sheets to support project communication
• Help monitor progress against project programmes and provide updates to senior team members
• Support checking of drawing schedules, GAs, working drawings and fabrication information
• Provide basic technical support to internal teams while developing confidence and competence
• Maintain clear communication and a customer focused approach across all interactions

About you:

• An understanding of AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor or similar 2D/3D CAD packages (training provided)
• Competent in Microsoft Office applications, with an interest in learning ERP/MRP systems.
• An interest in manufacturing processes such as metal fabrication, welding, machining and assembly
• Studying towards or holding a relevant qualification such as a T Level, BTEC Level 2/3, NVQ Level 3/4 (ONC/HNC) or similar in Mechanical Design/Engineering
• Able to develop the ability to interpret customer specifications into practical design solutions
• Organised and keen to build skills in managing multiple tasks and priorities
• Comfortable learning to work independently and meet deadlines with support and guidance
• Practical, hands on approach with an enthusiasm for problem solving and continuous learning
• Commercially aware mindset, gaining an understanding of cost effective decision making
