Job Description

The Airspace residency programme seeks to engage, enable and support two new visual artists with targeted professional development and creative time out at a fledgling stage of their careers.

Applications will be judged by a panel of artist Sarah Lucas; Barbican Curator, Lotte Johnson; and Founder Director of Raven Row, London, Alex Sainsbury.

Selected artists will be offered a six month residency with freedom, flexibility and zero fixed outcomes. Resident artists will receive studio space, a bespoke programme of critical engagement, mentoring, studio visits and more!

Who can apply:

We welcome applications from all early career artists who are over 18 and have a BA or equivalent experience. We will seek to support any barriers you may face in accessing this residency, including disabilities, access to our remote rural location, accommodation and finance.

What you get:
  • Shared exclusive use of our new, dedicated Airspace studio - a repurposed 20ft shipping container.
  • A bespoke programme of critical engagement and artistic development with Caroline Wright, artist and academic tutor specialising in professional practice.
  • Mentoring sessions with curator Rebecca May Marston.
  • Tours and talks with local institution directors: The Red House's Ella Roberts; SPILL Festival's Robin Deacon; Original Projects' Julia Devonshire and Kaavous Clayton.
  • Studio visits and talks with artists: Abigail Lane, Anna Ilsley, Emily Richardson, Karen Densham and Ryan Gander.
  • Warm, welcoming access and integration to the creative community at Old Jet studios, which includes a wide mix of celebrated, award winning practitioners - visual artists, musicians, authors, photographers, creative directors, marketing and press experts.
  • Editorial content directly in your inbox.
