The role

The University of Newcastle's Digital Technology Solutions team is seeking a Test Automation Engineer to play a key role in ensuring the reliability and performance of our enterprise systems, with a strong focus on Microsoft Dynamics 365 and ServiceNow.

You'll work in an agile environment alongside our external partners, creating and running regression suites, interpreting results, and developing a deep understanding of software changes across our platforms. Your work will directly contribute to maintaining system stability, reducing testing time through automation, and ensuring a seamless digital experience for staff and students.

What you'll do
  • Collaborate with the Capability Test Lead, senior stakeholders, and our Service Delivery Manager to plan, execute, and refine automated test activities.
  • Use TOSCA to automate accessibility and functional testing requirements, enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of testing cycles.
  • Partner with external vendors to assess and validate system changes, ensuring quality and performance before deployment.
  • Monitor and report on test outcomes, troubleshoot issues, and continuously improve automated suites for maximum reliability.
  • Occasionally perform manual testing where required and support the development of career-ready placement students within the team.
About you

You're a methodical and detail-oriented professional with a passion for improving testing processes through automation. You enjoy working collaboratively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, and you're comfortable taking ownership of your work in a fast-paced, agile environment.

You'll bring:

  • Proven experience in test automation, ideally with TOSCA (or a strong desire to develop expertise in it).
  • Experience in Microsoft Dynamics 365 environments.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across internal and external teams.
  • A methodical approach, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work autonomously.
  • Familiarity with agile practices and tools such as Jira (advantageous).
About the role and terms

This full-time position is a fixed-term role until December 2027 at a HEW 6 Higher Education Level located at Callaghan Campus.
