Job Description

Test and Commissioning Technician (Telecoms)

Installing and testing new telecoms equipment into (Client) existing National telecoms infrastructure along with conducting migration of services and assurance of telecoms assets delivered by third parties so that new infrastructure is delivered efficiently and in accordance with Group Standards and Industry best practice.

Key Accountabilities

  1. Undertake installation and testing activities to deliver telecoms assets and equipment nationally so that the delivery is in accordance with Group Standards.
  2. Carry out site and network testing and document results as directed by the current project work instructions or Authorised Telecoms Test Plan so that documented results are submitted to the Person in Charge of Testing (PICOT) or Tester in Charge (TIC).
  3. Complete configuration and circuit provisioning activities to enable migration of services from Legacy infrastructure as directed by Lead Engineer, Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE) or Project Manager.
  4. Conduct assurance of third-party site build and identify any non-compliance with construction standards, manufacturers specifications or detailed design, reporting and actioning as appropriate with the Lead Engineer, Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE) or Project Manager so that work completed is without deficiencies and can be escalated to appropriate stakeholders.
  5. Undertake post-handover asset audit and condition assessment surveys to verify designs have been fully implemented and any redundant asset removal has taken place.
  6. Participate in Lessons Learnt and Working Group Activities to promote continuous improvement of Telecoms Project delivery processes, designs and Group Standards

Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Essential

  • Significant experience in projects delivering telecoms equipment
  • Demonstrable experience of Telecoms Installation, Testing and fault-finding techniques including use of all relevant test equipment
  • Experience of standards and procedures for operating in a trackside environment and commissioning extensive telecom networks in a project environment
  • Experience working with and knowledge of the safety procedures required when working with invisible Laser radiating systems and high-power Radio Frequency equipment
  • IWA (Individual Working Alone) or higher track safety qualification and operate in accordance with all group and company standards
  • A knowledge of current CDM (Construction (Design and Management), Health and Safety legislation and best practice
  • Relevant working knowledge of technologies listed in (Client)Telecoms portfolio (such as PDH, SDH, TCP, IP, GSMR & Mobile Networks)
  • Full UK Drivers Licence

Desirable

  • Experience working within the Telecoms discipline for transport projects
  • Educated to degree level in Engineering or equivalent experience
