About the Role -We are looking to recruit a Chartered Engineer with experience in rail and general civils / structural engineering. The successful candidate will be the technical design lead on a variety of projects; primarily focused on developing rail engineering projects with established clients and to assist in building both the team numbers and extend the reach of the firms business activities. This is a senior level appointment within the firm at an exciting point in the development of the Glasgow Office and the Civils / Rail Team.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead the technical design on the delivery of civil and structural engineering design services. (inc calculations, drawings, specifications and reports) for the preliminary, detail design and construction phases of a project.
  • Have detailed knowledge of use of Finite Element analysis in design. Reviewing designs and drawings completed by team members or other parties for compliance with design standards and best practice guidance.
  • Prepare high quality technical reports, and ensure that quality and consistency of technical output (drawings, reports etc) is maintained
  • Ensuring work is compliant with Health and Safety legislation such as the CDM Regulations and other applicable codes.
  • Providing support to the Team Director, Office Partner and other colleagues.
  • Mentoring and guiding junior colleagues.
  • Liaison with Clients, Contractors, Local Authorities, and other relevant third parties.
  • Project management
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
  • The candidate should have a degree in Civil or Structural Engineering with extensive experience including leading a team in investigation, assessment, and design.
  • Chartered Engineer status (MICE or MIStructE)
  • Excellent communication skills - oral and written
  • Knowledge and experience of developing designs complying with the DMRB and Network Rail Standards. An understanding of standard forms of contract and ability to draft contract documentation.
