Job Description
Venesky-Brown's client, a public sector organisation in Edinburgh/Glasgow, is currently looking to recruit an Technical lead for a 12 month contract on a rate of £546.10/day (Outside IR35). This role will be hybrid with some team activities to take place in Edinburgh office or Glasgow office for at least part of each week.

Responsibilities:

- Lead development of new features.
- Lead the Back End refactoring of RCIL (AT and CB) to use vanilla Lambda instead of NextJS.
- Contribute to the design and documentation of the external/public APIs.
- Lead the support for all registers maintained by the domain. This includes live support, bug fixing and upgrading our software and platforms to ensure all registers are safely maintainable.
- Technically lead the continued enhancement and support of products owned by the domain in-line with the product and architectural roadmaps.
- Collaborating with colleagues from Product Management and Service Design to prioritise the backlog by providing insight into the architectural roadmap and the technical benefits that changes will achieve.
- Extend and sustain the high-quality support procedures, dashboards, monitoring and deployment capabilities to ensure the team can continue to improve services via feedback.
- Technically lead a development team in both their tactical and strategic work to help ensure the team delivers a cohesive solution that is well-architected and designed in line with engineering principles and best practices.
- Actively participate in the architecture community, ensuring that the architectural and engineering principles and best practices are defined, understood, agreed, and adhered to.
- Work with the Agile Delivery Lead and Product Manager to ensure the team works towards building and maintaining an agile culture of continuous delivery and improvement, with a focus on frequently releasing high quality, tested, working software, whilst utilising agile tools such as Kanban, WIP and flow.
- Creating and maintaining an appropriate level of documentation, including architectural roadmaps and technical options assessments that can be effectively used to communicate to the team and wider stakeholders the technical vision of the product.
- Championing ideas/changes/designs that you and/or the team believe are beneficial, influencing peers and key stakeholders as appropriate.
- Ensuring that developed software complies with non-functional requirements, such as accessibility, security, UI/UX, performance, maintainability, deployability, etc.
- Coaching and mentoring other team members.
- Support and deliver the disaster recover assurance of digital services, striving towards a sustainable Recovery Time Objective of 2hrs and Recovery Point objective of zero. This will be assured at 6 weekend points over the course of a FY year.

Essential Skills:

- Significant commercial experience with the following technology:
- AWS including: CDK, Serverless (Lambda), S3, API Gateway, Cloud Formation, Aurora/Postgres, Typescript
- Modern JavaScript UI frameworks, including React
- Strong HTML/CSS skills and an awareness of accessibility considerations
- Testing tools and frameworks eg Cypress
- Significant and demonstrable commercial experience in the following areas:
- Technically leading a high-performing, cross-functional development team.
- Designing, gaining consensus, and implementing technical solutions for software development projects
- Formal XP engineering practices
- Developing within Digital First or GDS quality standards
- Ability to engage with stakeholders, understanding context and requirements, from diverse areas of a business including Product Management, Service Design, and Operations
- Introduction of new or improved processes in development environments
- Developing solutions using human-centred, research-driven, inclusive design practices
- Designing and implementing solutions using service and event-based architectures
- Using testing tools for unit testing, including system test automation frameworks
- Cloud monitoring, telemetry, intelligence tools and processes, including Grafana
- Using written, verbal, and visual communication to explain complex topics concisely to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Incrementally replacing enterprise Legacy systems
- Working in Agile delivery models
- Defining infrastructure as code
- Coaching and mentoring other developers and team members

Desirable Skills:

- Experience implementing the Microservice architecture pattern.
- Experience with container platforms (eg OpenShift)
