Job Description
Technical CoordinatorPermanentBirminghamA brand-new opportunity has arisen for a technical coordinator to join a housing building business in Birmingham.You will be responsible for establishing all private and adoptable infrastructure required to support a new residential development. This includes roads, sewers, and all essential utilities. As part of the this is critical role ensuring every development meets and exceeds customer expectations, while delivering best value for the business.The role involves procuring, coordinating, managing, and reviewing engineering drawings, technical reports, utility designs, and site constraints to ensure each development can be delivered as intended. You will work closely with internal teams and external consultants to ensure designs are clearly understood, cost-effective, and accurately implemented on site.Technical Coordinator Responsibilities:
- Support senior engineers in assessing engineering risks and opportunities during land acquisition, including the preparation of feasibility information to support land bids.
- Assist the planning team in resolving engineering matters, supporting planning applications and the discharge of conditions.
- Ensure compliance with Building Regulations and NHBC standards across design and site stages.
- Appoint and manage external consultants to deliver surveys, investigations, enabling works, and detailed civil and structural design packages.
- Work with consultants to deliver cost-effective, buildable designs and manage construction risk.
- Liaise with utility providers, local authorities, and NHBC to secure technical approvals and associated agreements.
- Attend and contribute to Pre-Start and project meetings, preparing and issuing relevant technical drawings and documentation.
- Procure and manage on-site utility services, ensuring best value and coordination of off-site requirements.
- Oversee the delivery of on-site and off-site infrastructure from acquisition to site "go live," ensuring no impact on the build programme.
- Work closely with construction and sales teams to resolve engineering issues and mitigate site constraints, particularly during early build stages.
- HNC/HND, degree, or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering
- Proven experience in a similar role within a residential development or housebuilding environment
- Proficient IT skills, including AutoCAD, Outlook, Excel, and Word, with experience using engineering software such as Civil 3D and MicroDrainage
- Strong understanding of civil engineering design, with experience reviewing technical drawings and documentation
- Good awareness of engineering regulations and technical approval processes within residential housebuilding
- Confident working collaboratively with internal teams, consultants, and stakeholders to deliver the most effective solutions, whether through applying existing knowledge or developing bespoke approaches
- Knowledge of road and sewer design, including associated adoption requirements
- Excellent attention to detail, particularly when reviewing complex technical information
- Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to propose and implement practical solutions
- Ability to interpret and coordinate the technical requirements and designs produced by others
- Clear and concise communicator, able to report engineering issues to the wider business and proactively manage and mitigate cost implications
- Confident leading site meetings during early build stages, ensuring infrastructure delivery is coordinated and achieved successfully
