This is an initial 6 Month - Hybrid contract opportunity based in London.

Purpose of the Role:

Royal London is seeking a highly technical and data-savvy Business Analyst to join our dynamic data team. This is a hybrid role, blending traditional BA responsibilities with hands-on data analysis, modelling, and development capabilities. You will play a key role in driving data-driven decision-making across the business by working closely with stakeholders, development teams, and third-party providers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performing complex SQL-based analysis: write, debug, and optimise advanced queries to support data insights and transformation needs.
  • Having a good understanding of how to model data inside and outside a cloud data platform including down to 3NF (Third Normal Form).
  • Translating and adapting business requirements into well-defined user stories and technical specifications.
  • Develop and support reporting solutions using Power BI, including advanced DAX queries, data transformation, and visualisation.
  • Manage Power BI workspace modelling, deployment pipelines, and app creation in alignment with best practices.
  • Provide input into cloud platform engineering decisions, specifically related to Snowflake-identifying limitations, performance concerns, and architectural gaps.
  • Engage with third-party vendors to exchange, transform, and report on external and client data.
  • Operate effectively within a Scrum team, contributing to Agile ceremonies and sprint planning.

What we require from the candidate:

  • SQL Expertise: Advanced proficiency in SQL, including coding, debugging, and performing complex joins and data transformations.
  • Data Modelling: In-depth experience with both traditional and cloud-based data modelling techniques (3NF, Star, Snowflake schemas), and the ability to select and implement the right approach.
  • Power BI: Proven track record developing Power BI dashboards and reports using advanced DAX, along with strong knowledge of workspace management and deployment pipelines.
  • Cloud Platform Awareness: Solid understanding of data platforms such as Snowflake and their role in enterprise data architecture, performance tuning, and schema management.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Strong experience in translating business needs into technical deliverables for a range of internal stakeholders.
  • Third-Party Data Integration: Experience working with external data providers and integrating third-party data into internal reporting and analysis workflows.
  • Agile/Scrum: Comfortable working within a Scrum team and contributing to all associated ceremonies and processes.
