Kenny Wax Productions are recruiting for a motivated Deputy Stage Manager (DSM) to join The Play That Goes Wrong at the Duchess Theatre.
The successful candidate will have relevant and transferable experience as a DSM or equivalent on similar productions, will be eager to develop into a senior role, and must have the right to live and work in the UK.

Contract Type: Full-time, fixed-term contract for one year with the option to extend.
Dates of Employment: 20 January 2026 - 17 January 2027
Location: Duchess Theatre, Catherine Street, London, WC2B 5LA
Show Schedule- 7:30pm Tuesday-Saturday
- 2:30pm Saturday
- 3:00pm & 7:00pm Sunday
Salary: £850.28 based on 8 performances a week, plus Sunday Performance payments as per the SOLT/Equity agreement.
Holiday: As per the SOLT/Equity agreement.
Probationary Period: 12 weeks
Responsible To: Company Stage Manager and General Manager
Role RequirementsApplicants should have proven experience as, or covering for, the CSM. The role requires someone with exceptional people skills who can work in a highly pressured environment. A strong knowledge of Health & Safety procedures is desirable due to the physicality of the show. Last-minute cast changes are normal on this production, so applicants must be adaptable. Applicants must also be able to fit into an already established team.
We are particularly looking for individuals who are eager to develop into a senior role such as Company Stage Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities- To call each performance.
- To create and maintain an up-to-date prompt copy, including blocking, script changes, technical cues, and relevant contingencies.
- To work closely with the Company Stage Manager and Resident Director to schedule and coordinate rehearsals, ensuring spaces are appropriately set up.
- To deputise for the Company Stage Manager where necessary for sickness and holiday cover.
- To teach the book to all book-covers.
- To operate Sound (QLab) for performances and rehearsals, prep the microphone for each performance, and troubleshoot immediate issues alongside the in-building team.
- To take part in the preset with the rest of the SM Team; the DSM also has interval reset cues.
- To assist the Company Manager with show paperwork including rehearsal calls, reports, cue sheets, and prompt-copy-related paperwork.
- To ensure all stage management equipment and areas are kept tidy and secure.
- To work collaboratively with all other departments, including the theatre technical team, to ensure the smooth running of the production.
- To learn all plots/tracks within the department in order to provide absence cover where necessary.
- To assist the SM team with weekly maintenance.
- To lead and facilitate cast change rehearsals for the incoming company alongside the CSM and Associate/Resident Director.
- Any other reasonable duty falling within the remit of a Deputy Stage Manager based on industry norms.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Proven experience of covering a more senior role, such as CSM.
- A proactive and flexible attitude.
- An understanding of comic timing.
- Experience working with actors and creative teams, with the ability to manage expectations.
- Discretion and sensitivity with confidential information.
- Ability to work under pressure and prioritise effectively.
- Knowledge of SOLT and Equity union agreements.
- Awareness of current Health & Safety legislation.
