Technical Advisor

The Technical Advisor provides business development and technical support to M S H's Global Health Innovation (GHI) team. Among others, this role will focus on climate and health, int e grated health care, and policy/advocacy-related work, with additional work to be added per the needs and discretion of the TA's supervisor. In general, the TA will support busi n ess developm e nt, partnersh i ps, a nd exte r nal th ou g ht leadership MSH. S/he works closely with T SLs and Pro j ect Directors to provide te c hnical b a ckst o ppi n g, support work planning, d a ta analysis, oversight a n d coordin a tion o f reporti n g suppor t /d o nor man a gemen t , and to ensure coordination with other MSH units i n cludi n g MERL on assigned projects. S/he will take on additional / other projects as assigned by GHI leadership and will be an active participant in GHI and MSH meetings and initiatives.
Technical support and leadership for projects (50-75%)
Under the direction of Technical Strategy Leads and/or Project Directors:
- Provide technical and coordination support for technical excellence of projects, including lead roles in work-planning, achievement of deliverables on time and within budget, overseeing and coordinating teams to ensure compliance with donor reporting and other requirements, and adherence to MSH policies and procedures.
- Contribute to and support development of approaches and tools for the design and implementation of technical strategies that are innovative, technically sound, and/or evidence based.
- Contribute to developing products that communicate the technical strategies, approaches and results of MSH projects with donors, prime contractors (when other than MSH), partner organizations, and other relevant parties. This will contribute to achievement of MSH objectives through the documentation of MSH best practices, as well as research and mapping activities to inform and elevate various MSH technical strategies.
- Contribute to the production and dissemination of knowledge products and processes such as literature reviews, case studies, and blog posts for national and international audiences to accelerate rapid transfer of best practices.
- Synthesize evidence and literature, as well as relevant program results when appropriate for inclusion in products and strategies.
- Lead deve l opment and review o f conference abstracts in coordina t ion with other MSH teams per the SOPs.
- In coordination with Communications focal points and TSLs, identify the best dissemination channel(s) to support use of information internally and externally, including through organizing thought leadership series and events
Business Development (25-40%)
- Under the guidance of TSLs or as a lead or co TSL, contribute to project pre positioning and research activities to support development of technical strategies. Participate in, and contribute to the preparation of technical proposals for core and diverse donors.
- Serve as Business Development liaison for the IHC and policy/advocacy portfolios, maintaining pipeline for both portfolios in close coordination with BD focal point, developing SWOTs, and supporting bid resources and bid decision processes
Management/coordination of special projects (10-25%)
- Support SPHI/GHI to contribute to additional projects / special initiatives to serve the overall mission of MSH.
- Represent MSH externally at conferences and other though leadership events.
- Meet and communicate regularly with supervisor to discuss status of ongoing work and to provide briefings on new developments. Actively seek to develop performance through formal and informal development activities.
- Ensure knowledge of and adherence to MSH values, policies and guidelines and consistent quality of work performed. Conduct annual Performance Planning and Reviews.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Candidates should h ave at l e ast 5 6 years of rela te d experience of related experience with a Bachelor's degree and 3-4 years of experience with a Master's degree
- Master's d e gr e e in p ublic hea l th or related field required
- Previous experience working for MSH is required
- Strong ability to represent the organizati o n a s a pri n cipal c o ntact a n d generally performs in a pr o gram/proj e ct leadership role.
- Demonstrated ability to assess priorities, and manage a var i ety of activities with attenti o n to d e tail both indep e nd e ntly and wi t hin a t e am. Ability to work with management and senior custo m er perso n nel o n matters requiring coo r dination acro s s organizational lines.
- W ell tested record of financ i al managem e nt of inter n ation a l projects.
- Su c cessful e x p erience worki n g in a h ome offi c e environmen t .
- Strong inte r personal skills, written, and oral presentation skills.
- Develops resolutions to complex pr o b l ems that r e qu i re the frequ e nt use o f creativity a n d latitude. Uses ju d gment within broadly defin e d policies and p r actices.
- Inte r natio na l working e x p e rience in health or related field in developing countries highly preferred.
