Job Title: Team Leader - Health and Housing

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Environmental Health professional to lead our Health and Housing Team, driving improvements in housing standards across the private rented sector.

You will manage a team of officers, oversee enforcement activity, and play a key role in developing policies and strategies that ensure safe, compliant housing for residents.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, manage and develop a team delivering housing enforcement and regulatory functions
• Oversee complex investigations and take enforcement action where required
• Develop and implement policies, strategies and service improvements
• Ensure compliance with housing legislation, including the Housing Act and HHSRS
• Manage budgets, resources and service performance
• Act as a senior advisor on housing and environmental health matters
• Represent the Council in legal proceedings, including court attendance where necessary
• Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners

About You

• Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health
• CIEH/EHRB registered (or working towards)
• Strong knowledge of housing legislation and enforcement
• Experience managing teams and handling complex cases
• Confident communicator with the ability to influence and lead
• Able to work independently, including site visits and occasional out-of-hours work
