Team Leader - Children's Neurodevelopmental Service

There are exciting times ahead for Neurodevelopmental Services in West Wales and due to retirement of the current post holder, we would like to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated Team Lead into the children and young person's Neuro-developmental (ASD) service. This highly specialist regional service, offers diagnostic assessment of autism in children and young people, pre and post diagnostic support, professional consultation and training and engagement across all sectors.

In line with Welsh Government and NHS Improvement and Performance policy and legislation, we are seeking to develop the service further, aligning with the Children's ADHD service and utilising needs-led, integrated, whole-system regional approaches with partner agencies.

Main duties of the job

The role is predominantly managerial, interwoven with clinical components. The successful candidate will have day-to-day, operational responsibility for the service, ensuring seamless service delivery supported by robust governance arrangements.Further developing effective and dynamic systems and approaches to managing waiting lists, will be essential, as will developing and maintaining effective partnership working relationships with key stakeholders.

From a clinical perspective, the post holder will work closely with the Clinical Lead for the service contributing at multi-disciplinary decision-making panels, undertaking and/or contributing to diagnostic assessments and initiating service development initiatives.

Person Specification Qualifications and Knowledge

• Relevant degree in professional specialism - Nursing, Allied Health Professional.
• Holds a current registration with a professional body.
• Master's Degree or equivalent level of specialist experience in area of clinical expertise.
• Evidence of attendance on advanced and specialist post graduate short courses pertaining to neurodiversity and neurodivergence.
• Has sound knowledge of Welsh Government policy and legislation relating to neurodivergence.
• Has excellent insight into the changing needs of the Neurodivergent individual across life-span development.
• Willingness to train in the use of specific diagnostic assessment instruments.
• Working knowledge of the practices and approaches of other key disciplines, professional and agencies involved in the care and management of Neurodivergent children and young people, taking into consideration co-morbidities.
• Knowledge of legislation in relation to mental health, Neurodevelopmental conditions, learning disabilities across health, social care and education.
• Trained in the use of diagnostic assessment instruments such as ADOS, ADi-r, 3Di and/or DISCO.
• Nurse Prescriber
• Teaching qualification or experience.
• Has knowledge of a range of specialist assessment and intervention tools relevant to the client group.
• Understands the impact of local, cultural, linguistic, and demographic factors which influence service delivery.

Experience

• Has specialist knowledge and post graduate experience working with autistic children, young people or adults and those with other neurodivergences
• Experience in managing complex, specialised caseloads and in signposting to other services.
• Has an established ability to promote multidisciplinary/ multiagency and collaborative practice with a wide range of stakeholders and partners.
• Experience of working in an advisory role to others (including professionals)
• Significant experience in supporting, supervising and developing skills of less experienced staff
• Experience in using information gathering/ reporting systems Experience of working with a range of software packages e.g. Outlook, Word, Office 365
• Previous experience in working in a similar setting and/or a Learning Disability or mental health service.
• Experience of undertaking nurse led clinics.
• Experience in diagnostic assessment of autism.
• Experience in data collection and analysis
• Experience of working with Neurodivergent people with complex communication needs and behaviours that challenge
• Ability and experience in designing planning implementing and delivering training to others
