Teaching Assistant

Tradewind Recruitment are recruiting for a full time Teaching Assistant to start immediately for a Specialist School based in the west of County Durham. The role has a view to a permanent role for the right candidate and we have a temporary to permanent arrangement with the school to make the transition seamless. The School has a fantastic reputation of supporting, nurturing and developing it's staff within and has recently been awarded 'Good' by Ofsted. Free parking is available on-site and there are excellent public transport links in the area for those wishing to travel via bus or train. You will be supporting pupils aged 2-11 who are autistic or have profound, moderate, severe or complex learning difficulties.

Alongside other trained staff you will:

• Support pupils' health needs
• Assist where necessary with learners with feeding difficulties, including those with a gastrostomy and tracheoscopy
• Provide intimate care to meet pupils' needs
• Work with teachers, teaching assistants, and other professionals to provide effective support and care to pupils, tailoring support to the needs of the individual pupils if necessary
• Support small groups of children and individuals within the classroom and/externally to the main class as required
• Follow the school's policy and procedures for safeguarding, moving and handling and behaviour support including the use of restrictive physical intervention if necessary to keep children safe.
• Present oneself as a role model to pupils in speech, dress, behaviour and attitude
• Undertake appropriate training and administer prescribed medication when required including emergency medication
• Complete any training relating to the role will be provided by School or Health

What we're looking for:

• Experience supporting children with additional needs (school, care or youth work settings are all welcome)
• A calm, patient and proactive approach
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
• A Level 2/3 TA qualification is desirable but not essential
