Job Description

The Post

The College is seeking to appoint a dynamic, enthusiastic, and hardworking teacher to join the Sport & Public Services Department. The post is available on a permanent, full-time basis from 24 August 2026. The post would equally suit an experienced or Early Careers Teacher (ECT). For ECTs, a full programme of training and development will be provided.

All new members of staff receive mentors to help them settle into the College. This post provides an exciting opportunity for those wishing to specialise in sixth form education. Candidates who have little or no experience teaching BTEC Sport are still encouraged to apply, as the Department are able to support those wishing to make the transition to sixth form teaching.

The Department

The Department is housed in the purpose-built Sports Centre. The complex includes a large Sports Hall, smaller Sports Hall and a Gym. All classrooms are fully equipped with access to data projectors, sound systems, and whiteboards. The Department also has access to Tennis Courts on site and three Football pitches and a Rugby pitch off-site at the College's local playing fields.

The College firmly believes in promoting sporting opportunities to students and attracts students who represent their county and country at various sports including athletics, badminton, golf, gymnastics, martial arts, and swimming. The College has a number of sports teams including men's football, women's football, netball, hockey, men's rugby, women's rugby and basketball.

The Department consists of ten other teachers, who work closely as a team in a friendly and co-operative manner. The Department is also supported by the Sports Coordinator, who carries out technician duties as required. Students regularly progress onto university courses for Physical Education, Sport, Sports Science, Sports Management, Sports Development, Coaching and Teaching.

Courses

The Department offers the following courses:

  • BTEC Sport and Exercise Science
  • BTEC Sport
  • A Level Physical Education

The successful candidate will teach on the BTEC Sport courses. The ability to teach Uniformed Protective Services would be an advantage.

The salary for this post is up to £53,232 per annum.

The contact time for a full-time teacher is 21 hours per week (20 hours teaching and 1 hour Tutor). ECTs receive a 5% or 10% reduction on their timetable depending on whether they are a first or second year ECT.
