This is a unique opportunity to teach within a highly respected, purpose built Autism specialist setting while also delivering lessons within the mainstream school.

About the School & Provision

The role is based within The Beacon Communication Department, a specialist ARP for students aged 11-18 with:

  • Social Communication Difficulties
  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)

The ARP currently supports 42 students and is situated in a modern, purpose built building on the grounds of a Secondary Academy, in the London Borough of Redbridge.

The department's ethos centres around:

  • Promoting inclusion through appropriate mainstream access
  • Developing communication, social skills, autonomy and self advocacy
  • Celebrating diversity across the whole school community
  • Preparing students for adulthood through a broad and balanced curriculum

Students work towards Entry Level and Level 1 qualifications, with some progressing onto GCSE and BTEC Level 2 courses in the mainstream school. The academy also offers an extensive programme of Enrichment and Extra-Curricular Activities across KS3-KS5.

The Role

As a Teacher of SEND, you will:

  • Plan and deliver high quality, differentiated lessons for students with ASC
  • Teach both within the ARP and across the mainstream school
  • Support students in developing communication, social and independence skills
  • Create structured, Autism friendly learning environments
  • Collaborate closely with the SENCO, specialist support staff and parents
  • Monitor progress using personalised learning plans
  • Enable students to access suitable mainstream subjects where appropriate

This role will suit someone with a nurturing, calm approach and a genuine passion for helping SEND learners flourish academically and personally.

Requirements
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) - essential
  • Experience working with students with Autism / ASC
  • Understanding of social communication needs
  • Ability to deliver high quality teaching in SEND and mainstream settings
  • Commitment to inclusive practice and personalised learning
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

SEND experience in ARP, specialist settings or mainstream SEN departments is highly beneficial.

What the School Offers
