Job Description

We are seeking to appoint a Teacher of Mathematics to deliver high-quality mathematics education that inspires intellectual curiosity, fosters critical thinking, and supports the academic and personal development of students within the values and ethos of a Catholic school.

The role requires commitment to excellent teaching, collaborative working with colleagues and promoting the welfare and safeguarding of all students. We welcome applications from experienced teachers looking for a new challenge as well as from Early Career Teachers who wish to complete their induction.

Key responsibilities:
  • to support and to contribute to the Catholic ethos of the School, as outlined in the Mission & Ethos Statement and Aims of the School
  • to be aware of and to contribute to the School Development Plan and to promote the strategic aims of the School
  • to set high expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge students
  • to demonstrate strong subject knowledge and curriculum knowledge in Mathematics
  • to plan and to teach well-structured lessons.
  • to adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all students, including those with EAL, SEND and students who are more able
  • to make accurate and productive use of assessment to monitor and support student progress
  • to know how to assess relevant subject and curriculum areas using both formative and summative assessment
  • to mark students' work to a high standard, ensuring regular and constructive feedback
  • to manage behaviour effectively to ensure a positive and safe learning environment
  • to promote and to safeguard the welfare of children and young people
  • to take an interest in students' personal development and to contribute to the wider life of the School
  • to participate fully in the School's performance management process and to strive for excellence in the Teachers' Standards
  • to work collaboratively with colleagues and to contribute to departmental and whole-school initiatives
The successful candidate will be expected: Essential:
  • to have a clear understanding of, and commitment to, the aims of a Catholic independent boarding and day school and the values expressed in the Mission & Ethos Statement
  • to be a well-qualified university graduate (or equivalent qualification)
  • to have Qualified Teacher Status or to be willing to undertake teacher training
  • to be able to teach GCSE and A Level Mathematics
  • to have excellent communication skills, including a high standard of spoken and written English
  • to be able to work effectively as part of a team
  • to understand the importance of promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children
  • to demonstrate initiative, drive and enthusiasm to develop students' interest in Mathematics
  • to have integrity and the ability to give clear and consistent witness to the School's values
  • to be able to relate well to students and to take an interest in their personal development
Desirable:
  • to have experience of independent and/or boarding education and/or Catholic education
  • to have experience of marking or moderating for public examination boards and/or preparing students for examinations (e.g. tutoring)
  • to be able to teach a second subject or to support coaching a sports team and to provide details of any relevant experience or qualifications
  • to have coaching qualifications or to be willing to undertake sports coaching training
