Job Description
Teacher of Languages (Spanish and French) - 12-month fixed term maternity cover

We are seeking to appoint a Teacher of Languages (Spanish and French) to play a key role in delivering high quality Languages education. The postholder will teach Spanish at GCSE and A Level and will be able to teach French up to at least KS3, inspiring students to develop curiosity, confidence and academic excellence in the subject.

In addition to academic responsibilities, the teacher will actively contribute to the Catholic life and ethos of the School, supporting students' spiritual, personal and intellectual development. The role requires commitment to excellent teaching, collaborative working with colleagues and promoting the welfare and safeguarding of all students.

Key Responsibilities
  • support and contribute to the Catholic ethos of the School, as outlined in the Mission & Ethos Statement and Aims of the School
  • be aware of and contribute to the School Development Plan and to promote the strategic aims of the School
  • set high expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge students
  • demonstrate strong subject knowledge and curriculum knowledge in Spanish and French
  • plan and teach well structured lessons
  • adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all students, including those with EAL, SEND and students who are more able
  • make accurate and productive use of assessment to monitor and support student progress
  • know how to assess relevant subject and curriculum areas using both formative and summative assessment
  • mark students' work to a high standard, ensuring regular and constructive feedback
  • manage behaviour effectively to ensure a positive and safe learning environment
  • promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people
  • take an interest in students' personal development and contribute to the wider life of the School
  • participate fully in the School's performance management process and strive for excellence in the Teachers' Standards
  • work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to departmental and whole school initiatives
Qualifications and Expectations
  • clear understanding of, and commitment to, the aims and ethos of a Catholic independent boarding and day school
  • Qualified Teacher Status
  • excellent communication, organisational, IT and leadership skills
  • secure understanding of child development and safeguarding
  • ability to motivate others, build effective teams and work positively with parents
  • willingness to engage in ongoing professional development and to work flexibly as required
