Tax Manager

B&M is seeking a Tax Manager to lead UK VAT and Corporation Tax compliance within a FTSE 250 retail group generating over £5bn in annual revenue. Reporting into the Group Treasury and Tax function, this role will take day-to-day ownership of tax reporting, governance, and risk management, while acting as the primary contact for HMRC and external advisers.

Supporting the Head of Treasury & Tax and Senior Accounting Officer, the successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining a robust compliance and control environment, with high visibility across senior finance leadership and the opportunity to shape the Group's tax strategy and reputation.

The key responsibilities of this role:

• Own UK VAT and Corporation Tax compliance, including filings, computations, and statutory disclosures.
• Manage the tax compliance calendar to ensure all obligations are met accurately and on time.
• Support SAO requirements by maintaining effective tax controls, documentation, and accounting arrangements.
• Maintain and update the tax risk register, identifying and mitigating key risks.
• Lead HMRC interactions, including queries, audits, and Business Risk Reviews (BRR+).
• Ensure tax technical positions are robust, well-documented, and consistently applied.
• Build and manage relationships with external advisers to support tax delivery.
• Oversee tax processes and controls across systems, ensuring Making Tax Digital compliance.
• Drive continuous improvement in tax processes, controls, and data integrity.
• Provide pragmatic tax advice and coordinate on complex matters such as transfer pricing.
• Support tax transparency, reputational risk management, and training for finance and operational teams.

About you:

• Direct exposure to the UK VAT and Corporation Tax environments.
• Experience dealing with external stakeholders or regulators.
• Strong understanding of tax governance and controls.
• Professionally qualified (CTA, ACA, ACCA, ICAS) or qualified by experience.
• Experience within retail / high volume sectors.
