Job Description

We are looking for an experienced and passionate Tandoori Chef to join our award-winning kitchen team. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled chef to develop their career while working in a busy, professional Indian restaurant.

The main purpose of the role is to prepare and cook high-quality tandoori dishes while maintaining excellent standards of food safety, cleanliness, presentation and consistency.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Marinating meat, fish, paneer and vegetables using traditional Indian spices and recipes.
  • Operating and maintaining the tandoor safely and efficiently.
  • Ensuring all dishes are prepared to the restaurant's recipes, portion sizes and presentation standards.
  • Monitoring cooking temperatures and ensuring food is cooked and stored safely.
  • Preparing ingredients and completing daily mise en place.
  • Supporting the Head Chef with menu development and seasonal specials.
  • Monitoring stock levels, placing orders and assisting with stock takes.
  • Controlling food waste, portion sizes and food costs.
  • Ensuring dietary requirements and allergen procedures are followed correctly.
  • Maintaining a clean, organised and hygienic work area.
  • Completing food safety records and ensuring compliance with Environmental Health Officer regulations.
  • Working closely with curry, starter and South Indian sections during busy service periods.
  • Training and supporting junior kitchen staff where required.
Requirements

The successful applicant should have:

  • Previous experience working as a Tandoori Chef in a busy Indian restaurant or commercial kitchen.
  • Strong knowledge of traditional tandoor cooking techniques.
  • Experience preparing marinades, kebabs, grilled dishes and naan breads.
  • Good knowledge of food hygiene, allergens and kitchen safety procedures.
  • A Basic Food Hygiene Certificate or equivalent qualification.
  • The ability to work efficiently under pressure.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and consistency.
  • The ability to work independently and use initiative.
  • A flexible approach to working evenings, weekends and public holidays.
  • The legal right to work in the UK.
