AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations - from foundational services such as Amazon's Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations such as Bedrock that continue to set AWS's services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organisation, you'll support the development and management of services such as Compute, Storage, Database and Analytics, AI/ML, Platform and builder tooling in AWS, including support for customers who require specialised security solutions for their cloud services.

We are looking for an experienced Systems Engineering and Operations Leader to contribute to the growth of our organisation within Amazon Web Services.

Responsibilities

• Lead the deployment and operation of services in regions with specialised security needs.
• Report on the health of these services.
• Drive root cause analysis and coach others on performing them.
• Lead local development efforts to improve operational performance.
• Drive continual improvement in systems operations through the development of new tooling and automation.
• Define and drive projects and report on their progress.
• Meet with customers to develop relationships and clarify requirements.
• Create and refine the staffing and support plan for the services that you support.
• Work in an environment where operational excellence is truly the first priority.

Basic Qualifications

• Relevant hands-on engineering and administrative experience in networking, network services, operating systems
• Experience as a systems engineering and operations leader for an Internet service or leading edge IT organisation
• Demonstrated success building and leading teams
• Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Engineering, or Mathematics or equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Performance engineering and capacity planning background
• Strong engineering fundamentals (networking, operating systems, systems at scale) and experience leading teams responsible for running these services
• Leading development life cycle processes and best practices, especially in the areas of deployment automation and monitoring
• Experience with the deployment and usage of monitoring systems and experience with forecasting and capacity planning systems
• Leading software development organisations in a "DevOps" model and experience with distributed systems at scale
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
