The role of the Supportive Housing Caseworker is to deliver a professional, empathetic, and effective service to people and families needing long term sustainable accommodation and advance the Mission of The Salvation Army.
The successful candidate will practice social work frameworks, professional practice and reporting and should show acceptance, inclusion and genuine interest in people and validate their story and aspirations. Be able to listen, relate and affirm people in such a way that they are encouraged to examine their issues and create solutions that lead to sustained independence (passing knowledge and power to a person so they can regain independence). You will be responsible for managing cases and the referral of clients to internal and external services, in line with their goals, to deliver positive outcomes, ensure the set outcomes are being achieved and reporting aligns with practice, promptly record client interactions and case notes and connect people to Salvation Army services (such as Community Ministries and Corps) that enhance their current circumstances and that meet individual needs.
With skills, planning and purposeful action, you will support people to find a home and neighbourhood in which they will build the future of Aotearoa. - A background in the social services/mental health/addictions sector
- Holds a recognised Social Work Degree (with full body registration), registration with other professional body, or working towards. Current or previous relevant work experience to be taken into consideration.
- Relevant work experience within the transitional housing sector would be advantageous.
- Be legally entitled to work in New Zealand.
- Strong relationship building.
- Ability to understand and relate to people from diverse backgrounds and who are experiencing hardship, trauma and/or mental unwellness.
- Role modelling commitment to engage and journey with people, providing support for personal responsibility and motivation to achieve own goals.
- Maintains a high level of professional practice recognising the dignity, and individuality of clients.
- Computer literate including Teams, Outlook and Office 365.
- Able to relate to people with sensitivity, care and patience.
- Highly developed written and oral communication skills.
- A strong understanding of, and a heart for, social justice issues.
- Ability to work to targets and deadlines.
- Ability to work proactively, problem solve and meet multiple demands.
- Strong cultural competency, with the ability to work from a bicultural perspective
- An additional working week of Salvation Army leave awarded annually on 1 July.

This role is permanent and hours worked will be 40 per week.
The starting salary for this role is likely to fall between $58,900.00 and $77,107.00. This role is covered by the Social Workers pay equity agreement and the final remuneration will be dependent on the years of experience that the preferred candidate brings to the role.
