Job Description

Main duties of the job

The Support Services Catering Assistant reports to the Hotel Services Supervisor and undertakes a range of catering duties, including the preparation of beverages, snacks, salads, sandwiches, buffets, and cooking of hot meals for both patients and staff within the Health Board. Other relevant duties associated with the catering operation and, periodically, broader Hotel Services Team tasks such as cleaning or porter duties are also performed. Work may be on a rota that includes evenings and weekends.

Previous experience is an advantage but not essential. Full training will be provided. The role requires self motivation, flexibility, the ability to work as part of a team and independently. Welsh language skills are desirable but not required.

Person Specification Experience
  • Experience in the catering industry
  • Level 2 food safety
Qualifications
  • Literacy and numeracy L1 or equivalent
  • Knowledge of corporate and local induction, completion of internal training programme within 6 8 weeks, including: appropriate health and safety training, fire training, moving and handling skills, cleanliness champion training, policies and procedures, site knowledge, elementary food hygiene. Successful completion of agreed minimum training within the first 12 months.
  • Level 2 NVQ in catering or equivalent, or willingness to undertake further training to achieve it
  • Level 2 in numeracy and literacy or equivalent, or willingness to undertake further training to achieve it
  • Level 2 or equivalent food safety qualification such as CIEH Level 2
Aptitude and abilities
  • Independent work or as part of a team, demonstrating core organisational values and behaviours
  • Follow instructions, organise own work to meet team objectives, adapt to changing priorities and tight timeframes
  • Some ability to speak, read and/or write Welsh, or willingness to learn
