DEPARTMENT: Media Operations
LOCATION: Salford, office based.
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £32,000 - £42,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Studio Director's are a key part of Media Operations and you'll be joining a team of highly skilled and creative people working 24/7, 365 days of the year at the heart of BBC News and Sport, working closely with editorial teams to provide high quality content, on 5 live, Radio 4 and the World Service.

BBC MediaOperations is at the heart of delivering incredible content across all our platforms for all audiences. Comprising around nine hundred people, it manages the craft and production operations for the BBC's news, radio, and sport services across London, Salford, and Birmingham - capturing, editing, and producing output 24x7 for TV, radio, and online.

Our team are experts in their field with exceptional technical, operational and production creativity at their heart. Working closely together with our editorial colleagues, we co-create all content reaching millions of people across the UK and the World daily.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

• Operate Live Broadcasts: Run mixing desks and studio equipment during live radio shows, ensuring high-quality audio output with creative flair.
• Overseeing high-quality audio production across a variety of projects, playing a crucial role in shaping the sound landscape at the BBC, ensuring that audio output meets the highest standards of excellence.
• Manage Contributors: Connect and technically manage on-air guests, keeping live programmes running smoothly, including out-of-hours support.
• Support Editorial Teams: Provide technical help beyond the studio-connecting guests, troubleshooting equipment, editing audio, and producing podcasts.
• Collaborative & Inclusive: Join a supportive team that values diversity, curiosity, and a passion for audio, regardless of experience level.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

• Audio Expertise: You have hands-on experience working with sound, ideally in live or radio environments.
• Demonstrate a strong passion for sound and audio production and how this could be implemented in the role of Studio Director at the BBC.
• Creative & Technical Vision: You bring both technical skill and creative flair to shape high-quality audio output that meets BBC standards.
• Problem Solver: You're proactive in identifying and resolving issues, always looking for ways to improve operations and output.
• Collaborative Team Player: You work well with others, supporting colleagues and contributing creative ideas aligned with editorial goals.
