Role Title: SU Connectors Student Staff

Time Commitment: 8 hours per month during term time (Sep 2026- May 2027)

What will you be doing?
  • Supporting and helping students who are experiencing loneliness, isolation and low-risk mental health challenges to improve their wellbeing in a non-medical, holistic way.
  • Regularly communicating with students in-person and online (video calls, emails, phone etc.).
  • When required, keeping confidential records on a case management system.
  • Following relevant policies and procedures e.g. Student Staff Safeguarding and GDPR etc.
  • Discussing, researching, planning and signposting students to activities, events or opportunities that will improve their wellbeing (such as SU sport).
  • Having strengths-based conversations and using motivational interviewing skills.
  • When required, attending activities, events or opportunities with the students they support.
  • Building and maintaining a good working knowledge of Salford SU and the services we offer, alongside developing your knowledge of university and community activities.
  • At all times demonstrating a commitment to professionalism, respect, and confidentiality in your work.
  • Researching ideas and opportunities for students both within and outside of the University of Salford and to think creatively and openly about what students might be interested in.
  • Regularly providing feedback and updates to the SU Connections Lead to monitor impact and improve the service.
  • Facilitating group sessions to help students build confidence and skills in making friends.
  • Promoting the Connections Programme across campus and online when required.
  • Attending any meetings and completing any other tasks as directed by the SU Connections Lead.

This role is intended to provide peer-to-peer support only, and Student Staff cannot provide advice to students. All our student staff will receive training to enable them to fulfil the role, including wellbeing and signposting training. Students applying must be currently enrolled on a course at the University of Salford or have accepted an offer to study at the University of Salford from September 2026. This is a paid role. SU Connectorsare required to commit to a minimum of 8 hours per month.

You do not need any previous experience to apply for this role. We are looking for people who:

  • are current University of Salford Students (Undergraduate or Postgraduate)
  • are willing to attend activities, events or opportunities (such as SU sport - all abilities welcome!)
  • have good communication and listening skills
  • Understand and be passionate about ending loneliness on campus
  • have great organisation and time management skills
  • are interested in the role and want to learn
  • feel comfortable and confident working with potentially vulnerable students
