Our Clean Rivers and Seas Task Force is leading major improvements to reduce spills and transform how stormwater is managed across the region. With a £1.5 billion programme underway, we are expanding our team to deliver innovative and sustainable solutions. As a Storm Overflow Engineer, you will play a key role in designing and delivering targeted interventions that reduce storm overflow spills. You will work closely with internal teams, contractors, and local communities to create long term environmental benefits. What you will be responsible for: Analysing technical reports to understand the causes of storm overflow activation Designing and delivering interventions across multiple catchments, including large scale schemes Managing budgets and spill reduction targets within your area Working with internal teams and external partners to deliver schemes, including on assets not owned by Southern Water Reviewing rainfall, pump station and monitoring data to assess performance Preparing business cases, forecasting budgets, and reporting outcomes Attending monthly community meetings to share updates and build trust Engaging with customers and stakeholders to support stormwater management Leading health and safety responsibilities across all delivery activities Promoting sustainable drainage solutions (SuDS) on private property Additional requirements Participation in incident support when required. Occasional evening or weekend community meetings. Travel across the region as part of the role. What you'll bring to the role: Essential Strong technical understanding of wastewater and sewer systems Ability to explain complex information in simple, clear language Experience managing contractors and cross functional teams Skills in risk management, governance, and health and safety leadership Ability to work with incomplete datasets and drive innovation BTEC/HNC in Civil Engineering or equivalent experience Desirable Experience working in a regulated environment Knowledge of sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) Progression opportunities This role offers opportunities to progress into senior engineering, programme delivery, or specialist environmental roles as the Clean Rivers and Seas programme grows.
