Job Description
Sterile Services Technician

Closing date: 06 May 2026.

Responsible for carrying out tasks related to the decontamination process, ensuring the cleaning, disinfection, inspection, packing, and sterilisation of medical instruments and equipment, preparing them for safe use in patient treatment across Theatres, Wards and other clinical departments in compliance with established protocols and infection control standards.

This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. While not essential, speaking and listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above are preferred.

Main Duties of the Job
  • Carry out all tasks associated with the decontamination process: cleaning, disinfection, inspection, packing and sterilisation of medical instruments and equipment.
  • Ensure all items are prepared to the highest standards for use in Theatres, Wards, and other clinical departments.
  • Operate and maintain decontamination equipment in accordance with departmental protocols and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Perform quality checks to ensure compliance with infection control and health & safety standards.
  • Accurately record and maintain documentation relating to instrument processing and traceability.
  • Assist with stock control and the safe storage of sterile items.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and clinical teams to support service delivery.
Driving Duties (as required)
  • Transport sterile instruments and equipment between hospital sites or departments.
  • Ensure safe handling and secure delivery of items in line with HB policies.
Qualifications
  • Institute of Decontamination Sciences (IDSc) Technical Certificate OR Vocational Level 3 Decontamination OR equivalent knowledge, work experience and skills within a decontamination role.
  • Some knowledge of surgical instrumentation.
  • Previous experience in Sterile Services.
Desirable
  • Familiarity with ISO 13485:2016 and UK MDR 2002 (as amended).
  • Welsh language speaking/listening skills at Level 3 or above.
  • Experience working in a clean room environment.
  • Experience involving visual inspection and packaging.
