The Sterile Services Department (TSSU) is a dynamic team that reprocesses surgical instruments for the Trust and surrounding areas. The role involves collecting used instruments, preparing them for washers disinfectors, assembling instrument trays, inspecting for cleanliness and damage, wrapping instruments, and sterilising and delivering reprocessed surgical instruments. Shifts run from 2 pm to 8 pm Monday to Friday.

This is a physically demanding position that requires standing, manual handling of sets that can weigh up to 13 kg, and repeated handling tasks. The department offers a six month on the job training programme and plans to provide NVQ qualification opportunities. Advancement options include supervision and future managerial roles.

Main duties

• Collection of used surgical instruments
• Preparation for washer disinfectors
• Assembly and inspection of instrument trays
• Wrapping of instruments
• Sterilisation and delivery of reprocessed instruments

Job responsibilities

• Undertake general duties within the Sterile Services Department including cleaning, inspecting, testing, assembling, checking, packing, and sterilising theatre, ward, and operating theatre instrument trays. • Collect and deliver items to wards, departments and theatres.

Qualifications

• Recognised qualification in Sterile Services (IDSC, NVQ or equivalent)

Experience

• Previous work in Sterile Services or clean room manufacturing hospital setting
